you've been reading to much garbage on reddit. if anything, ATX 3 is more likely to just die after this general of nvidia GPUs as people seem to hate the new plugs. AMD GPUs are NOT using the new high power connector, so for AMD hardware ATX 3 spec may as well not even exist.
ATX 3 only adds the 12+4 pin 600W PCI-E adapter. that's it. nothing else changed. it's the same god dam thing but they put in am extra cable in the box and charge you $50-$70 more. if you buy this or any other "old" corsair PSU, you can then just buy the high power adapter by itself for $20, plug it into this thing and it automagically becomes an ATX 3 PSU. but then you'll have to spend $1200-$2000 on an nvidia GPU to actually use said cable

Running 5900x & 3080 strix
Installed it a week ago with
Ryzen 9 7950X
ProArt X670E-Creator w Flare x5 32GB Ram
IronWolf Pro 18TB
1 NVME SSD
1 SSD
MSI RTX 3060 Ventus grahics card
Had RAM autoclocked at DDR5-6000 with just AMD Expo settings, didn't even try harder
I'm building this system to upgrade from a i7-2600 system, so I'm way overdue
for a nice upgrade -- I could probably easily switch the 3060 to Radeon 7900 XTX
without worrying about power issues (but don't really need one yet)
I don't see using this as a "risk"; My existing build is estimated at 489Watts by
pcpartpicker, and I have absolute no issues. I'm using Air cooling with Noctua NH-D15 with Fractal Torrent case, so it's pretty relaxed with cooling in there, no heavy demands.

Also what pushed me to the Thor is that it seems to be pretty much silent when not under load and comes with nice braided cables and cable combs, which would have cost a fair amount extra to add to this Corsair. The screen on the Thor is cool, but doesn't matter to me since my case has a PSU sheath, so I won't see it unless I do some case surgery.

Never mind. I searched and saw they were acquired by an investment firm and it has been downhill ever since.
