Some people noted in previous threads that if you live in countries other than the United States, you may see lower pricing (such as Colombia).

A common question is, is Plex Pass worth it? Here is a feature overview: https://support.plex.tv/articles/...-overview/

Same here after the changes to Amazon music I decided to migrate back to my own library.

If you use Android try symfonium music player a try. I enjoy the experience more than Plexamp. And for audiobooks the chronicle app.

Veteran Plex-er here. PlexAmp is terrible. If you want to unlock God mode, download "Prism Music" and "Prologue" for iOS and prepare yourself for the best music and audiobook readers in existence.
Can't say enough good things about Prologue. The best Audiobook reader app hands down. After years of trying sub-par and buggy audiobook apps, Prologue came as such a relief.

TIL there is a dedicated music app called PlexAMP -- I'm slowly migrating back to my own music collection 😬

So one of the main features offered by Plex Pas - downloading to local devices - is broken according to Linus? I just got the Nvidia Shield - and as he says (as do most people) it runs Plex flawlessly.

I watched that as well. He seemed to imply that it was just some devices he had issues with. I have not had any problems downloading to my devices. I have mostly downloaded to my kids Fire tablets for a recent trip and did not have a problem.

What changes to Amazon music are you referring to?

The on-demand music which you've paid for is only playable as shuffle mixed with a bunch of random music. It started early November. And they've made it nearly impossible to download music you paid for but you still can for now.

Nearly impossible to download? I just opened the Amazon Music app on PC, selected Library>Music>Albums - clicked "Purchased" at the top and it shows everything I've bought. Then to download the album I hover over the picture, click the 3 dots and select Download.

Took me 10 seconds to get to it. Not even remotely "impossible."

Also not sure what you mean by on-demand music you bought being shuffled with other music. I can stream any music I've bought without other music being put into the stream. I stream any album I've bought with no issue and playlists I've made from albums/songs I've bought play exactly what I want.

I don't like the Amazon Music app much at all, but I don't see anything like you say.

How does this compare to Jellyfin?
One is updated often and the other one costs money.

We just discussed lifetime Plex Pass with my son yesterday and I was under the impression that its sale price has always been $75..? Am I missing something?

I came here to recommend symfonium as well. The dev is very responsive on his forums and sorted out a unique issue that I was having.

I've always been a fan of hosting all my own media on my NAS and that's why I have Plex w/Plex Pass (purchased years ago at a discount) to begin with. I don't use any streaming services.

Honestly I haven't tried the competitors (jellyfin, emby). But the reason I was pushed to symfonium for my music on Android is because Plex Amp only allows you to download/offline cache up to 24 hours of your music, not all of it. Well, like a good SDer, that's a problem for me because I own weeks of music and I have a BYOP prepaid phone plan where I only pay for limited data (10 GB) as that's all I need. My phone has plenty of storage for caching all my music using wifi. The problem is, Plex's stance is "no one needs to cache more than 24 hours of music; if they want to shuffle their entire library, they can just stream it." This has been their standard response for at least a year or two when the issue is raised on both their forums and reddit. Well, I'm not burning my limited data on that, and I'm on the road using Android Auto all the time. So that left a bad taste in my mouth, and pushed me to paying a few $ for symfonium (which syncs with Plex and lets you cache as much music as you have space for) and which I now find superior to the plexamp app anyway.

I moved from Plex (non-paid version) to Jellyfin on my Synology DS920+ recently and really like it. Free hardware transcoding and playback on all my devices has been smooth.

I tend to agree with Linus here. Plex seems to be using resources on features few care about and yet let their core features suffer.

Is there an equivalent for Android though? I like the idea of PlexAmp, but in practice, it sucks pretty hard, so usually just end up using the regular Plex app for music, but I'm always on the look out for something better- especially when it comes to browsing large libraries

Please pardon my ignorance. I don't know everything under the sky but how do y'all exactly use plex to its full potential? I mean is there a YouTube video with a step by step process for dummies like me or a website link? Thank you so much and bless y'all!
