Some people noted in previous threads that if you live in countries other than the United States, you may see lower pricing (such as Colombia).

A common question is, is Plex Pass worth it? Here is a feature overview: https://support.plex.tv/articles/...-overview/

Same here after the changes to Amazon music I decided to migrate back to my own library.

If you use Android try symfonium music player a try. I enjoy the experience more than Plexamp. And for audiobooks the chronicle app.

I've used Plex for about a year and bought the lifetime Plex Pass to try the "skip intro" feature but mostly to support the developer for a polished product that I've used regularly. My understanding is that some targeted promos have the sale price as low as $75 but $90 is the typical low outside of targeted offers. The price does change if buying in an alternate currency (from another country) but you'll be prompted that the credit card used should match the country selected. The price when purchasing from Turkey is particularly enticing but you'll need a Turkish credit card.

paid $70 last sale about a month ago using colombia as country. it seems to be the only country that is low price but doesn't verify the credit card location. that said, can't say it was definitely worth it although i do like the intro skip and pic tagging features. i don't benefit from hardware transcoding since it is already included in the free version.

Great piece of software. Bough Plex Pass many years ago to add OTA DVR and offline downloads to my setup. Paid for itself many time over compared to other OTA DVR solutions.

I might start doing this again after ATSC 3.0 rolls out in my area. The move from h.262 to h.265 will be a quantum leap in efficiency. Too bad it won't make the programming any better Sleeping

Consider Jellyfin. I got it because it is free and had feature that plex did not have when I installed Jellyfin. Plex did not let me change playback speed. Plex requires login and has to call home. With Jellyfin you own and have control over everything. People say the UI is junk but I like the simplicity. All my stuff where they need to be and do not have to navigate through junk to get to my files.

Same; I've used it for years and regrettably passed on deals when the lifetime pass was as low as $75, but that was at least a couple years ago. I pulled the trigger on this deal.

So can I use a VPN to purchase this cheap in like turkey or Brazil? And still use it in US?

Edit: nvm I used Columbia and got this for $71.45. Thanks!

Hardware transcoding is definitely NOT included in the free version of Plex

I'm a long time xbmc user, but I'm finally considering a move to plex/emby/jellyfin. Leaning towards jellyfin as I have a FOSS bias, but Plex is obviously the big player here and might be easier to setup and use for other users.

I've never needed transcoding or anything like that, but lately my content has gotten dramatically larger (and that's not even jumping to 4k). E.g. I just went on a trip and wanted to access some content while I was away...but the movie was 30+GB and it took a LONG time for me to grab it from my home computer where the cable modem can only upload at ~20mbps max. Also my wife wanted to put some episodes on her tablet for the plane ride and a single HD episode was coming in at like 3-4gb which quicky filled her available storage...gone are the days where a 1-hour show comes in at 750-850mb so transcoding and ability to download smaller sizes in apps would be nice.
You should look into x265 encodes it dramatically decreases the file sizes. For example I have a 1080p bluray x265 encode for a Game of Thrones episode and it's only ~800mb

My plex stopped working. I can't get it working again. One of the updates just broke it on my qnap. I'm pissed.
I had that problem recently too. After the last update everything I'd try to play would error out and say "Playback failed. Transcoder failed to start." Took over a week to get a helpful answer on Plex forums. Come to find out the transcoder.exe file mysteriously disappeared. Uninstalled Plex, downloaded the latest version and reinstalled (also noted during the reinstall that I was running the 32-bit version, not 64-bit like I should have had.) That fixed everything.

You may want to try uninstalling/reinstalling and see if it works. Thankfully I didn't have to rebuilt my Plex libraries either which was a blessing. I'm currently running 77TB and getting ready to add another 32GB this week.

Veteran Plex-er here. PlexAmp is terrible. If you want to unlock God mode, download "Prism Music" and "Prologue" for iOS and prepare yourself for the best music and audiobook readers in existence.
What makes it terrible? Does Prism have chromecast support? If it can't use chromecast that definitely kills the deal for me.

I use Plex all the time but it's an absolute mess on Android TV right now. On the CCwGTV it crashes when I direct play a 1080p HEVC file. It also stopped playing a lot of AVC/h264 on CCwGTV and TiVo Stream 4k recently so I am back on Roku for Plex and still on Android for Emby.

Wait is that a typo or did he just say 77 TB.. Are you running a datacenter rig?

No need to hate on this, support the developers. This is a very polished piece of software, and paying 90$ for a lifetime license is a cheap way to show support for the developer.

The built in OTA DVR is awesome. TV shows record seamlessly, also you can pretty much run a secondary transcode script after recording.
I have setup a second batch of script that extract the Closed captions into an SRT, then recompress the recorded .TS files into a much smaller files.

The offline viewing is a also a real plus for long flights. Being able to watch my shows from anywhere also.

I used the free version but paid up like 4 years ago and it is definitely worth it.
