LTT recently had a podcast discussing Plex and Jellyfin (and what they currently prefer to use) https://youtu.be/bbY3PNZUMVg

Some people noted in previous threads that if you live in countries other than the United States, you may see lower pricing (such as Colombia).

A common question is, is Plex Pass worth it? Here is a feature overview: https://support.plex.tv/articles/...-overview/

Same here after the changes to Amazon music I decided to migrate back to my own library.

If you use Android try symfonium music player a try. I enjoy the experience more than Plexamp. And for audiobooks the chronicle app.

Yeah, IDGAF about "normal" price on pretty much anything LMAO, otherwise I wouldn't be on this website so much. But you are not wrong either, most of the sales are for $89.99 however they seem to have targeted offers for $74.99 from time to time, judging by my mailbox. That's exactly what I wanted to know, so I'll pass this one and wait for the $75 one.
Swap your country at checkout to one that charges less but won't validate the country on the credit card. You can get it for under $75 today.

You gotta take everything Linus says with a grain of salt. While I enjoy his channel from time to time, he's a bit too eccentric of a geek for my tastes and must just have the worse luck. Frankly he's not patient enough to keep tinkering on the bleeding edge of tech.

While I've never had any issues downloading content locally with Plex I had to laugh at his "night before a flight" problem. Just apply the KISS principle. In the time he spent firing off an angry email to his staff he could have just copied some content locally (USB or wifi or SD card), and fired up VLC on the airplane.
right because you know for a fact that all his media files were in a format that would fit on his phone or tablet?

Consider Jellyfin. I got it because it is free and had feature that plex did not have when I installed Jellyfin. Plex did not let me change playback speed. Plex requires login and has to call home. With Jellyfin you own and have control over everything. People say the UI is junk but I like the simplicity. All my stuff where they need to be and do not have to navigate through junk to get to my files.
my biggest problem with jellyfin when i installed it about a month ago is the media identifier is AWFUL. It thought jurassic world was jurassic world dominion and that rainn wilson movie super was league of superpets. Im pretty sure plex uses the media length if there isnt extra movie info like the year it was released, but i guess jellyfin doesnt.

Wait is that a typo or did he just say 77 TB.. Are you running a datacenter rig?

No need to hate on this, support the developers. This is a very polished piece of software, and paying 90$ for a lifetime license is a cheap way to show support for the developer.

The built in OTA DVR is awesome. TV shows record seamlessly, also you can pretty much run a secondary transcode script after recording.
I have setup a second batch of script that extract the Closed captions into an SRT, then recompress the recorded .TS files into a much smaller files.

The offline viewing is a also a real plus for long flights. Being able to watch my shows from anywhere also.

I used the free version but paid up like 4 years ago and it is definitely worth it.
except you know, they just flat out stopped fixing things that people use plex for and focus on things that no one wants like tidal integration

I might start doing this again after ATSC 3.0 rolls out in my area. The move from h.262 to h.265 will be a quantum leap in efficiency. Too bad it won't make the programming any better
plex does not support (yet?) ac4 on nextgen tv so there won't be audio. they've been dragging their feet for the past two years.

But it takes time to prepare for the Turkish card and transfer from Wise US account to Turkish account and then the card. I always leave some money in my Turkish account, everything in Turkey is cheaper, including the Apple iCloud services and Steam games.

No idea what you are on about. PlexAmp is the best music player on Android period.
OK maybe on Android since I don't use that Platform.

On iOS, Prism and Prologue are dimensions ahead

Please pardon my ignorance. I don't know everything under the sky but how do y'all exactly use plex to its full potential? I mean is there a YouTube video with a step by step process for dummies like me or a website link? Thank you so much and bless y'all!
You open an account with Plex (try it free before buying this plexpass. Deal expires Friday)

Then download the Plex server to your computer or open it in a browser. Now add to the library aka tell the web app server where to find your movies/TV shows. If you have under 10 TB, give it an hour or so to add them all to your library. Now login to your Plex account on your smart tv and you will see all your shows/movies with beautiful cover art organized and searchable like a private Netflix. Works with music and photos too.

The Plex pass (this deal) is to add some features such as the ability to save videos onto your phone app to use with weak/no internet like on flights. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know when this deal will end? (end of 2022?)

I'm still debating buying this or trying Jellyfin. (I recently bought an HDHR)
I saw it ends Friday on their site.
