LTT recently had a podcast discussing Plex and Jellyfin (and what they currently prefer to use) https://youtu.be/bbY3PNZUMVg

Some people noted in previous threads that if you live in countries other than the United States, you may see lower pricing (such as Colombia).

A common question is, is Plex Pass worth it? Here is a feature overview: https://support.plex.tv/articles/...-overview/

Same here after the changes to Amazon music I decided to migrate back to my own library.

If you use Android try symfonium music player a try. I enjoy the experience more than Plexamp. And for audiobooks the chronicle app.

I have a NAS with Plex running. I honestly can't think of a single time when I wanted to watch some of my local content or share that content where there wasn't some kind of little bug, performance issues, or it just straight up not working. I recently spitefully setup jelly fin after messing around with plex trying to get access form an android TV. It took me less time to setup jellyfin on my NAS, phone and TV than I spent troubleshooting Plex.

Good riddance Plex.
My grandma and my kids under 10 years old have no problem with it so YMMV.

YT Premium is $1.30 a month in Turkey as well.
WOW, I wasn't aware of that. I will definitely setup an account although I don't need YT Premium. I can take advantage of any other streaming services.

if anyone here is naive its the person that thinks linus is too dumb to just plug his phone in via usb to copy some files
I don't think he's too dumb to do this, but I do think he's petty enough not to do it on principal alone. He seems like the kind of guy that would rather fight with something for hours rather than just do it manually and move on.

You really gotta pick and choose what to listen to and believe from Linus. He seems to base a lot of his product reviews on whether or not they do what he needs personally and doesn't really care about any other use case. For example: "I have it (Plex) so it will manage my media library, and so that I can watch my media library on all my devices. Anything else is utterly irrelevant and might as well not exist."

I don't watch Linus much but he's right on this. When I started using Plex 7-8 years ago I could easily download my media to my phone for a flight otw to the flight, or waiting in the terminal. It would even transcode the download on the fly if you wanted. At some point that broke on iPhone for years and then on Android. That was like 5 years ago. It sucks to plan on having the feature and then having it almost work until your time is up. I remember the frustration and disappointment on that flight. Then they made a big fuss about getting it working again about a year or so ago. They changed the name of the feature. Obviously it still doesn't work.
I miss 2017 Plex.
Just for reference:https://www.plex.tv/blog/going-of...got-great/
October 26, 2021: This blog entry was big news because the feature had been broken for years after working just fine for years. I haven't tried it since then but LTT obviously demonstrated that it isn't working a year later. This isn't a big deal but it's what Plex users are dealing with in general. Basic features stay broken so long that it's a big deal when they are fixed.

To sum up the YouTube Plex download is buggy, doesn't play next episode and LTT hasn't tried Jellyfin. This video is pointless IMO

You open an account with Plex (try it free before buying this plexpass. Deal expires Friday)

Then download the Plex server to your computer or open it in a browser. Now add to the library aka tell the web app server where to find your movies/TV shows. If you have under 10 TB, give it an hour or so to add them all to your library. Now login to your Plex account on your smart tv and you will see all your shows/movies with beautiful cover art organized and searchable like a private Netflix. Works with music and photos too.

The Plex pass (this deal) is to add some features such as the ability to save videos onto your phone app to use with weak/no internet like on flights. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! That helps a lot.

Can Jellyfin do this? Because that's basically the feature I want.

Can my wife open her tablet, select an episode of a show, and download it "low quality"? (I'd like to do it too, but I want it to be easy enough that my wife can do it like she does with Prime video).

The transcode feature is important, because a lot of my new stuff is pretty high quality (like a 2-hour movie coming in at 30gb in 1080p) and 1) our mobile devices don't have enough storage space and 2) my home connection upload/airport wifi/tethered cell service don't have the capacity to move that much data while sitting in the terminal.

I've been trying to set up Amazon music downloads to go to synology, but the PC app doesn't automatically download songs anymore.

Been a Plex user for the last 5ish years. Overall it's been a good buy for me. Only 2 things bother me, sometimes it loses the meta data on some of my foreign movies/shows. And it genuinely has a hard time downloading media to any mobile device. I've tried all different tablets, phones and it's really hit or miss but streaming works good.

You should really educate yourself on Plexs privacy policy. Jellyfin is not for the faint of heart but Plex is whack. My lifetime membership is just laying around.

We just discussed lifetime Plex Pass with my son yesterday and I was under the impression that its sale price has always been $75..? Am I missing something?
$75 used to be the normal sale price, but that was a few years ago. That is what I paid for miine.

Plex is better for people looking for plug'n'play who may struggle with technology.

Jellyfin good for others who like tinkering with settings and/or technology.

There's also Emby for those looking for another option.
