i suggest avoiding the entire CS900 as a main OS drive. The phison s11 chipset is known to be problematic and seem to have more random failure rate than regular manufacturer failure. I am not advocating avoiding PNY but any SSD with phison s11 to save you possible future hassles : ).

User might get the infamous "Satafirm s11" error - https://www.google.com/search?q=S...+fix+cs900
Repairing via flashing is possible - https://forums.tomshardware.com/t...x.3489081/

I have a phison S11 ssd that refuses to be detected by USB and will always become unbootable after windows installation. Works fine as a internal storage drive. Another drive that seems to randomly freeze the computer when overloaded.

Can't say for sure! This brand has been a problem with USB sticks for me and only me. I buy WD, Sandisk, Samsung, Crucial, Seagate, Kingston, Corsair products.

I had an ADATA failure for a 1TB SSD and their warranty service was outstanding.

I have been gun shy with the OP brand, but if the warranty service is painless and free go for it. Not for a boot drive.

Good prices for portable external storage.

Some pretty good prices. Are these reliable for storing sensitive data?

Edit: I plan to use this as an Apple Time Machine backup.

Would these be good for an Unraid cache drive you think?

The smaller SKU's of this disk use the DRAM-less Phison S11 controller and 64 layer Micron TLC NAND. The larger SKU's (2TB/4TB) sometimes contain TLC, but more often contain QLC NAND. At these prices, this is an okay option as a general use secondary storage disk.

Nope! Only public data.

Snarky comment aside any data you do not want to lose you need to back up (i.e. have more than 1 copy).

These are low end but the lower capacities do have TLC nand. They work well for upgrading older machines with spinning drives. I have several 256GB - 1TB I've picked up in the last year or two on deals like this to upgrade 5-10 year old machines.

I paid $30.99 for the 500GB version this past Sept and I thought that was a good deal.

Not if you write a bit of data. The 500gb only has 200TB endurance.

You really want an enterprise drive with much higher endurance. I went with an old Intel ssd with 16.9PB endurance. I use two 800gb S3610's in my Unraid system.

There are quite a few high endurance ssd's out there. The one in this thread isn't one of them.
