i suggest avoiding the entire CS900 as a main OS drive. The phison s11 chipset is known to be problematic and seem to have more random failure rate than regular manufacturer failure. I am not advocating avoiding PNY but any SSD with phison s11 to save you possible future hassles : ).

User might get the infamous "Satafirm s11" error - https://www.google.com/search?q=S...+fix+cs900
Repairing via flashing is possible - https://forums.tomshardware.com/t...x.3489081/

I have a phison S11 ssd that refuses to be detected by USB and will always become unbootable after windows installation. Works fine as a internal storage drive. Another drive that seems to randomly freeze the computer when overloaded.

Can't say for sure! ConfusedThis brand has been a problem with USB sticks for me and only me. I buy WD, Sandisk, Samsung, Crucial, Seagate, Kingston, Corsair products.

I had an ADATA failure for a 1TB SSD and their warranty service was outstanding.Smilie

I have been gun shy with the OP brand, but if the warranty service is painless and free go for it. Not for a boot drive.

Good prices for portable external storage.Smilie

I've owned 2 CS900 1TB models and both failed within a year. Had to warranty both and after the second time, I bought a samsung 1TB SSD and haven't looked back since.

These are low end but the lower capacities do have TLC nand. They work well for upgrading older machines with spinning drives. I have several 256GB - 1TB I've picked up in the last year or two on deals like this to upgrade 5-10 year old machines.
Are 256gb and 500gb TLC?

Should be safe with anything 1TB and under.

According to this 2TB and under capacity comes with Micron B16A/B17A TLC nand and 4TB and 8TB is equipped with Micron N18A QLC.

I had a similar experience as the user hungrytiger. My pny thumbnamil drive died prematurely, imo, and never bought pny again. That being said, this price is too good to pass on. Just dont store any sensitive data in these, plus u should be backing up multiple copies even if you're using a sandisk/samsung/wd storage drive.

I bought the 500gb this past weekend from bb for $28.99 and used it to switch an old laptop with a clean win11 install. Worked pretty well and pretty good price like others said for Sata SSD if you can't go nvme.

It absolutely would be a good upgrade for an old PC boot drive, almost any SSD will be an upgrade over almost any spinning platter hard drive. An inexpensive SSD like this one isn't the fastest or most reliable but for basic everyday use or general storage it's hard to beat this price. For constant or heavy duty use, or for peace of mind for long-term storage, maybe look into a better drive with a longer warranty, but just replacing a regular hard drive? Sure, go for it.

Silly question but anyway to buy two of these, and run them as one volume? Windows. Data integrity isn't important as it is just a local copy of a dropbox drive.

for me important files are all stored on icloud
