It was the anchor store at my local mall 20+ years ago, and my working poor family didn't go there because it had nice brands we couldn't afford (we were more about JC Penny or garage sales). When I started making decent money ~15 years ago, I went to that Macy's pretty frequently and was mostly happy with what I got.
But in the last 5-7 years, it seems like they've become a factory store. Lowest-tier lines of known brands like Ralph Lauren, I'm guessing a fair number of them with store-specific SKUs. After 2-3 times of buying items on sale online that turned out to be of disappointing quality and looking through a bunch of shoddy stuff at an actual store, I'm all but done with them. They're essentially Kohl's.
FWIW: anyone getting a wool overcoat for <$150 shouldn't expect much regardless of brand. $200 is the lowest I've personally found for a good (not great) quality one. Peacoats are obviously a different story.
