I've used both and always go back to the regular because there's not much difference.

The only comparable product for cheaper would likely be Walmart's Great Value dishwasher packs for around $10 for 96, but if you're going this route you'd be far better off just buying the 75oz box of Great Value powdered detergent for less than $5. It's likely the exact same thing that's inside the pack for less than half the price.
The 75oz box of powder is the equivalent of around 158 of the packs and is less than half the price. This comes out to around $0.02 per load, with the added benefit of being able to add some to your pre-wash container.
I just finished installing a new Bosch dishwasher at home which came with (and recommends) the Quantum packs. Having done several loads of dishes using both the Quantum packs, old-style PowerBall hard tablets, the GreatValue advanced pacs ( the "compare to Cascade Platinum" ones) and the cheap sub-$5 Great Value powder, I see no difference at all in how the dishes come out.
Before committing to these (or any) of the packs, it might be worth trying the Walmart powdered detergent first since it's so incredibly cheap. Even if you don't end up liking it as your "daily driver" detergent, you can always use it as pre-wash with other tables and packs.
