I have this model (square base not curved) and it does well for door routes, making speaker cabinet circle cuts with a jig on pine, and other small projects. I don't cut too deep and make multiple cuts to achieve desired depth. It does NOT hold the bit as much as my full sized ryobi router which stays mounted in my router table, AND leaves ALOT of the bit out for flex which can be dangerous...so beware of that. but for a hand held 18volt it's a good price. I haven't had a bit slip out yet, but I'm always changing bits so no one tighten is in for a long time. I use mine a lot but within it's limits. I only cut like 1/8"-3/8 at a time.
my GUESS is that the router plate is small, so when routing, it may tilt if you're going too fast or not holding it steady? But that's just an issue with handheld routers itself, maybe hes looking for a table router

This is cheap, but it is a completely useless tool and a complete waste of money. It can barely hold onto router bits without them slipping over time, and the base is impossible to keep perfectly square. Total junk, do not buy, you will ruin projects with this router.
It has its used. Worked great for me on two different decks.

Not sure what experience this person has had, but I've used it for plenty of trim work and never had an issue. What do you mean by the base being impossible to keep square?

This worked for me on a back deck and two storage units I built for under washer and dryer.

Maybe someone more familiar with the Ryobi lineup can help clarify, but I think the OP deal is for the older model and this is the revised replacement ?

the p601 has worked great for me. Never had a problem with slipping bits like the other poster said. Got this when DTO had the router + bits included for $50.

Bought this generic edge guide on Amazon and it works great for my needs.

I haven't had issues using this for smaller projects. Recommend this guide to make things a little easier when needed. Fits perfectly.

I have it, the bits don't slip on mine. Agree with you on the tiny base. There are aftermarket bases supposedly, but I only use this for mild trim router duties.

The lock on the base does not keep the base locked in at 90 degrees to the router's bits. No matter how you adjust it, the base is always at a slight angle, roughly half a degree, and has considerable play, because the fitment between the router's body and the base is too loose.

The fact that the base can be adjusted when it is "locked" tells you everything that it's not a stable tool at all. Tons of play, no base should be adjustable when in the locked position.

The collet is also a garbage design, which will not grip bits adequately. It's a very common problem for bits to slip in this router, crazy dangerous. Tons of youtube videos showing this, from experienced wood workers.

This router ruined tons of round overs I was trying to do from it constantly slipping. It would be fine for 6-8 feet of passes, then start slipping unexpectedly.

It's just a junky, overly plasticky tool that I regret wasting money on.
