FYI I just wanted to chime in and say that the hot spot issues with the 7900xtx is affecting all reference model designs. Most nonreference don't suffer the overheating. And the consensus is that the 7900xt should be way lower like 800ish

"Blow this card away" I wouldn't get too carried away. I'am waiting for the 4070 myself. With DLSS, it will probably be a better value than this card.
I got 6800xt for 630 with taxes. I am not sure with 800 plus taxes(40 ish) 4070ti provides me 200 bucks worth the value. Fingers crossed 🤞!

This card should have been named the 7800XT and sold for $650.

HOLD THE LIME, people!

(even though I admittedly didn't with my 6700XT for $350!, Lulz)
Then put it in the coconut and drink it all up.

Correct. As soon as I saw this on FP, my immediate thoughts were with the video that was published today talking about the issues with the design of the vapor chamber and how orientation of the card were causing the issues. I'd give a strong, "waaaaait" before looking at this card. Either that or checking out what you'll actually be doing before jumping in.

People have been hoping AMD would do something special with GPUs for years, especially in the budget/midrange since they can't compete at the top, don't count on it. They will continue pricing each tier laughably high considering the advantage Nvidia has for RT and DLSS. RTX 4070 ti for $800 will blow this card away using those features.
Last gen they were pretty even (at the top as well), and at current prices the 6700/6800's are easily better than nvidia. RT advantage is there for sure, but depends what you're looking at. Some think nvidia is automatically faster in all RT use cases, but for example the 6800 would smoke a rtx3060 even in RT. And FSR is pretty comparable to DLSS 2.1. DLSS 3 is basically fake frames which doesn't help low FPS at all and introduces added latency.

Der8auer on youtube just confirmed that hot spot temperature issues are not a faulty card. its a faulty vapor chamber on the heatsink.

So while I appreciate competition and wish AMD the best. I wouldn't recommend the card until you can know for sure the heatsink won't be defective.

The heatsink issue could be much bigger problem than the 16 pin power connector issue that everyone made a big deal over on Nvidia.

I am hearing there could be 1000s of bad heatsinks. which is much higher number than the 30-50 people that had power cable issues with nvidia.

Lets wait and see how bad it is first.

I have a 4090 and I don't turn on RT for Darktide even with with DLSS on. It kills 90 FPS. RT is overrated as a selling point. Whether or not DLSS or FSR is going to be a competition is valid point though. I think people were hoping AMD would cut the bull crap of Nvidia pricing cards with relatively similar price/performance ratios this generation but instead they monkey saw monkey did. I'm the type who would buy a 4090 but I am angry that the 4080 16gb (not the 4080 12gb er... 4070 Ti 12gb) isn't a value proposition for people like how the 3080 was for Ampere.

Nvidia and AMD got high on crypto mining crack and can't quit. The 7900XT needs to $750 at most and the 4070 Ti needs to be no more than $700 even then that's pushing it.

It's just bad for consumers both Nvidia and AMD deceptively named products that are clearly below the tier for their name when compared to Ampere and RDNA2.

4080 16gb is really a 70 class card (die name and bus width)
4080 12gb (4070 Ti) is really a 60 class card (die name and bus width)
7900XT is really a 800XT performance class card

So is it a safe assumption to say that production of 6xxx series cards is over? 6800 XT's seem to have gone extinct. Hopefully AMD will knock it out of the park with the price / performance ratio on the 7800 XT and 7700 XT cards.
Looks that way. Strange thing is that no mention of 7900xt or 7700xt from AMD till now. Not sure what's going on with entry level/budget cards at this moment
