I dug out my Wii U to buy some games from the eShop before they close and wanted to give a heads up about some notable titles on sale now. Seems to be a Capcom sale and some more indie titles.
These are only able to be purchased on the Wii U eShop from the console. You can link your NNID (Nintendo Network ID) and Nintendo Account and them merge the funds so that you can use your Switch funds to buy games on the Wii U eShop.
The Wii U eShop closes in March so only about 3 months to buy games on there.
The PSPrices site is not showing the sale price on some of these but they are on sale on the eShop on the console.
There are some more indie titles on sale as well but the major ones I see are:
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition - $4.99
Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara - $3.74
Zack & Wiki - $4.99
Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles - $4.99
Steamworld Heist - $2.99
Steamworld Dig - $1.99
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - $7.99
Ducktales Remastered - $3.74

QA note: Links for reference. As mentioned in OP purchases can be made via console.

Agreed. Many of the best games have since gotten Switch ports, but I still use mine. In part because I bought BotW two years before I got a Switch, and never really saw any point in buying it (and the DLC) again just for a slightly higher resolution.

When I got a switch I was given the option to merge my accounts. Whatever money I put on my switch I also have access to it on my Wii u.

I wish they would have released some switch games to Wii U. Wouldn't have been hard and kept that small fan base happy.

Other games potentially adding before eshop closes… wind waker hd, xenoblade chronicles X, Mario galaxy 1 & 2, skyward sword (if you're picky about motion control).
It's on the virtual console, but Mario Tennis 64 is also great with the gamepad as a controller. Last bit of unsolicited advice : if you've never played it, Mario RPG is fantastic - it's 100x better than the paper Mario games.

You sir, made me a very sad person with your last comment I freaking love paper Mario games!!!! Yet to play Mario rpg, maybe will find it some emulator and test your opinion
The first 2 paper mario games were the best with the og turn based, badge style. The later ones were not as good imo, especially sticker star.
Try bug fables if you like paper mario. Or the outbound ghost

Some of the paper mario games stunk, looking at you stickers star, others such as the first 2 were amazing
