Over the last decade plus I've tried just about every other popular brand (in the -50% price range) and dozens of cheap-o direct from AliExpress brands. Every one has developed some sort of functional issue over time (bulbs split or controller dies, strips stop connecting and / or working all together, locked in one color, etc., etc). Many require some sketchy app to pair / connect initially.
Most of the cheap ones also lack in the color range / brightness departments as well. Orange and greens look more yellow, etc. Hue's (current gen, at least) do a great job in both brightness and color accuracy.
You can def save a few bucks and get adequate results, but this is absolutely one of those 'buy nice or buy twice' situations imo.
