Various Retailers have The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance & the Art of Living (eBook) by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman on sale for $1.99

Thanks to Deal Editor powerfuldoppler for posting this deal.

Available from:Book Synopsis:
  • Why have history's greatest minds—from George Washington to Frederick the Great to Ralph Waldo Emerson, along with today's top performers from Super Bowl-winning football coaches to CEOs and celebrities—embraced the wisdom of the ancient Stoics? Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise.
  • The Daily Stoic offers 366 days of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations from the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca, or slave-turned-philosopher Epictetus, as well as lesser-known luminaries like Zeno, Cleanthes, and Musonius Rufus. Every day of the year you'll find one of their pithy, powerful quotations, as well as historical anecdotes, provocative commentary, and a helpful glossary of Greek terms.
  • By following these teachings over the course of a year (and, indeed, for years to come) you'll find the serenity, self-knowledge, and resilience you need to live well.

This is excerpts of writings from Aurelius. Holiday takes 1 writing and analyzes it with / for you. I've struggled with the source material Meditations. The translations matter but I still struggled and thus this is good for me.
Neither. Depending on your goals I would recommend reading anything by Donald Robertson on Stoicism before picking up Holiday. I would especially recommend "How to Think Like A Roman Emperor" instead of Meditations. The audiobook is ready (excellently) by the Author and the book itself is put together great. If you are more of a graphic novel person, Verissimus is about Marcus. A lot of Robertson's works are available to rent through the libraries.
nice find

I have some digital credits that I collected by choosing delayed shipments.

Would those credits apply towards this purchase?

Thanks !

Well both.. but Meditations is a must if you're trying to go down the stoicism path. The paperback version of Meditations is only like $8. So just pick it up.

For reference this book in the post was previously 99 cents.

you should read this one, one lesson each day. You should get the new version of Meditations on audible. It's the one with the big head on the cover by Diskin Clay Penguin Classics. That narrator is good.

This is a much better intro to stoic philosophy, which includes a lot of Marcus Aurelius. You get a nice mix of stoic philosophers day to day. It's one of those books you actually end up reading, since it's only a page (sometimes 2) a day.

I'd recommend starting with Epictetus, especially The Enchiridion, and though he's not classified as a Stoic, I also recommend reading Epicurus' Letter to Menoeceus, which espouses viewpoints very similar to those in Stoicism. Those are both short, accessible works that have good free public domain translations available.
