Wi has both timed dose and grind by weight. So you just load the hopper with beans, put portafilter in and get correct amount of grind, usually within .1 g.

Few potential issues here,

1. If you're really into espresso you're supposed to clear any retained grounds. So either purge a gram in the morning (wasting beans) or single dose where you weigh what you want and only pour that into grinder and use bellows or similar to clear out the rest, which defeats the grind by weight feature.

2. You're only supposed to change grind setting while motor is running. If you have a loaded hopper, changing grind setting means you're grinding beans. However, if you have a empty hopper because you only put exactly what you want in them this isn't a problem, but then this defeats the purpose of the Wi model.

3. Loaded hopper means you have to wait for hopper to empty before you try different beans.

However, if you're like me where you are just drinking lattes, won't taste the difference of some stale grounds, or can drink something not perfectly dialed in, then this works great. Very convenient for me to just wake up , turn this on and get correct amount of grounds.

Should note, I don't grind directly into portafilter since it makes a bit of a mess with overflow. So I just grind into basket and pour into portafilter that has a dosing funnel on it.

Pretty good prices. Specially for the Settes. Also, nice comment on use from op.

What's the difference between the 270 and 270WI? Worth the extra?

Love my 30, *after* upgrading to the 270 rings. The 30 steps are a PITA for espresso.

I've been using a Baratza Sette 270 for 4 years now. It works very well. Baratza has amazing custom service which really makes their grinders self service. I had a repair outside of warranty and they didn't charge me anything. They sent me a new motor due to vibration and sent me a video on how to install. They were fantastic and it's a very easy grinder to maintain. I think it's the best espresso grinder for the money. You can spend more on Eureka or other brand if you want. There will be better overall build quality (more metal than plastic) but I really have no complaints with the Sette 270 other than it's a little on the loud side.
