I'm using the very first version of Google WiFi for like 6 years...and pretty happy with it. The parents control is very easy to use although I don't really need to use it often...now that most of my devices in the house from phones to tablets to streaming devices have been updated to later gen... should I need this?

Yeah I'm in a similar boat. We had Comcast for several years running through the old Google pods and have been wanting to upgrade. Last month we changed back to Verizon and they threw in a free router so debating if it's worth it or not. The WiFi is fine but when we are both working connected to VPN on different levels of our home it does seem like it's stretched thin while doing video calls 2 floors above where the router is located but not sure if this would actually help. We've also been having issues with the connection of some of our smart devices.
I was so excited for this router set when it came
I have the Google Wifi and love it for family and the features
I was waiting for this to go on sale so I could upgrade
But when I saw the reviews the 1st month out.....
Not good at all
So looks like i'm going to pass on this set dang...

Verizon gave me a month trial on 5G internet. They gave me a square box shape router or modem I don't know. I used it for a week and the wifi is bad on the upstairs...so I plugged it into the Google WiFi (I unplugged the Comcast box first), and so far so good... internet is down a few times for a short time...I'll have to check what price is...if they beat $35 Comcast (200Mbps) then I'll cancel Comcast.

It's Costco. Buy it to try it. Reviews can be fake...I think.

An update in November fixed a lot of the connection issues. I would recommend trying it out yourself first.
Long time Google user, and this one seems like it has been plagued with what almost all Google hardware has experienced the past few years - the initial software releases are more like betas than fully fleshed out production deployments. The net results are bugginess and inconsistency.
The good news is they do make good hardware, so once they've had some time to work out the kinks you get what you pay for. The bad news is for the price they charge you shouldn't need to be a glorified beta tester.
Costco's reviews are not like Amazon's - if they're poor, they're at least legit. Reading through a few you can see some people are just not technical enough to know what they're doing and it shows, but others are troubling reviews about performance issues and stability from people who clearly knew what they were doing. If you need 4 mesh points though, this is a good price and Costco's return policy can't be beat.
I upgraded from nest wifi. I haven't had any issues since October 31st when I set it up. I just had to make sure that the modem/router was set to bridge mode. If you already have the nest wifi and zero WiFi 6 devices, don't bother.
