If you do some research online, you'll see that in the type 20 generation there is virtually no difference between the top of the line DWS780 and this DWS779 outside of the shadow light. In type 22, they removed the 22.5 degree bevel pawls, slide lock lever, and socket end from the wrench. They have also cut a lot of corners, which is what IncompletePerfect is referring to. The saws are not what they used to be, and are trending in the wrong direction. Hence why he said the type 23 will prob be made of Legos.

I don't understand why people ask is this hackable… click a few buttons find out. This deal is not hackable to answer the question. When you add 2 items too cart and there's only one price in cart it's not hackable , if 2 discounted prices display it's hackable . Usually if both items are in the same ad together it's not hackable. I also manually found the saw tool only and and stand tool only separate ads added both too cart and no discounted price displayed !

Type 22 trash. I'm assuming when the type 23 comes out, it'll be made of Legos. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

You've done us dirty for too long Dewalt... but in the end, I'm glad they did. I'd have never tried the Bosch if Dewalt still sold the type 20 779.

Good luck SD'ers!

Down costed model with cheaper parts (more plastic) and missing convenience features.

It's a good saw, but if you use it more than just a couple times a year, there are better saws that are worth the $200+ more. The depth required for this thing is obnoxious, for some people that alone is worth getting higher end models.

In direct comparison with the bosch, the bosch main advantage is the space saving arm design. Huge bonus but I've never seen that saw go on a major sale. If space isn't an issue, I don't see the downside of the dewalt personally.

Also of note, from what I can find, the only difference between the 779 and the 780 is the shadow line feature. You can get a kit to convert the 779 to the 780 for around $100 from

You could easily sell the stand and it's a great Saw at that price. Than buy the light kit and you'll have that shadow line too

Yeah, it was $50 off on 11/20 but that is not "a major sale".
