They aren't enforcing any fees at the moment. I think in the future they might for the premium features.

Right now I have Wyze showing me still image alerts. If I want the video I can go into Camect and use the scrubber to find the event in question.

Once I add an SD card to each camera I'll have the redundancy. Camect can also store videos directly to a NAS if you desire.

Camect is still in its infancy so it's not entirely polished. It was an Indiegogo launch a few years back.

I got the home depot deal (2x $35), and in conjunction with Camect I'm reasonably happy with them. Ended up getting a few Floodlights with additional v3 cam in the box from Costco as well. Cheap system, does the trick for me to mostly monitor the pets.

Returned Eufy Pro floodlights due to their security concerns and ended up with 10 Wyze cams for cheaper.
I surely would have bit on the Home Depot but it required pickup.I don't need 4 and 1 goe's for $30 on Amazon,so this is not that slick.Good camera's though with micro SD storage an no subscription required.

$30 vs $17 per unit is not slick?

It's a slick deal, it just is not what you need.

You didn't need a truck to get them. Any ol car would have sufficed.

Because wyze knowing about a security flaw in their v1 camera for 3 years without telling anyone about it is so much better?
Wait until you find out your bank, credit reporting company, medical insurance company, every major online retailer, every major email provider, etc all did the same thing. Oh, and with Wyze's security "flaw" required physical access to the camera AND specialized knowledge to exploit the attack AND there were exactly zero cases of it happening in the wild unlike all the above examples. None of your info is up for auction on the dark web....at this exact moment....from a Wyze leak but can't say the same for the rest.

The ongoing selective outrage against Wyze is so cute Wink

Woo-hoo!

Thanks for that background. I wasn't familiar since I'm new to the Wyze ecosystem.

^This. I'm still not entirely enthused about the way this was handled, but I'm way madder at LastPass right now.

The issue was if they announced the exploit there was no solution for...they were advertising the exploit....there was no solution for. By not mentioning anything they managed to keep the number of cases down to the low, low number of exactly zero. Now, they could have recalled countless cameras, probably leading to the company's bankruptcy while there would still be thousands of affected cameras in the wild and an army of people who knew how to abuse them.

The solution Wyze picked wasn't perfect, but was better than the alternative.

BTW, the "LastPass" thing is pretty scary.

Honesty, I doubt 99.9% of the people who complain about the Wyze "exploit" know the details either. Most 1st gen products have flaws, flaws that have points of failure. Many manufacturers don't go out of their way to advertise these failures when A) there is almost zero risk of it occurring and B) when there is no known solution. In the case of Wyze both A and B were applicable.

No w/ caveat. Currently you can sign up for "name your own price (including $0)" Wyze Cam Lite. This includes 12 seconds of cloud based video clips but with a 5 minute timeout (i.e. once triggered it will not record for another 5 minutes). See more detail here [wyze.com].

Also, you can always just pop a Micro SD card and call it a day.
