If you like espresso, or espresso-based drink, the Nespresso Original system is worth to take a look at. Their other system called "Vertuo" uses centripetal to extract the coffee by spinning the pods at a pre-determined speed, amount of water and time embedded in the barcode printed at the rim of each pod. The brewer can read and brew accordingly.
Of course none of these 3 systems (Keurig, Nespresso Original, Nespresso Vertuo) are compatible with each other.

Also there are some non-Nespresso branded machines that do multiple such as the Instant Pod (Classic "Original" Nespresso Pods + K-cups) and a few others. I haven't seen a hybrid for the Vertuo most likely due to the scanning + centrifugal approach.

I would say if you're an avid espresso drinker, nothing beats grinding your own fresh beans, tamping, and using an espresso machine.
Same on the other end where you can grind & brew your coffee to 'perfection'.
That being said whether it is a K-cup or Nespresso machine, they offer convenience and consistency (and variety) but maybe not the best cup of espresso / coffee.
