Note that this flashlight takes an AA battery (250 lumens) or a lithium 14500 (600 lumens). Battery not included! A good lithium 14500 probably runs you $5-$10/each but it's difficult to buy just one. Also, the AA/14500 battery size isn't that big so this is more useful as a short task light (1-2 hours).

The Sofirn SP40 as OP mentioned can run 6+ hours on a more substantial 18650 rechargeable lithium battery (built-in charger). Currently on sale for $30 and comes with a good 18650 battery. IMO this is a better deal and better flashlight.

Wish more flashlight manufacturers made the operation modes on/off with press of switch. Can't stand cycling each time even if it's just 2 light levels before off.

Really good review on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlig...nicron_n7/

This thing is never $29.99. CCC shows the seller just manipulates the price so they can say it's on sale. Normally $16.

Is it tactical because it's black?

The SP40 has a memory of the last mode used. It will turn on in that mode.
Yes, I have the SP40 and it's great. A few months ago I was searching for a torch with 90 degree rotating head and mag base like the OP but couldn't find one with a simple mode operation in the same price category.

Appreciate the info, I told myself I don't need it, almost added to cart, then decided against it, will probably get something with a 18650 in the future if I have more devices that can utilize it.

Shame the sofrim doesn't have the swivel to change from right angle to straight ahead. That's a nice feature if it locks in place properly.

I got this on the last sale. I am happy with it. I keep it stuck to the refrigerator which makes it the most used flashlight in the house.

I second this... I wouldn't depend on this thing as a 'tactical' light but, for something that isn't super pricey, it's not a bad light.

Bonus points here too... I had a problem with the first one I bought a while back. I contacted the seller and they sent me a new one without any hassle. In short, good customer service.

Looks good. I personally stick to torches that use 18650 batteries, so I don't need to keep several battery types around. Also like the capacity of that type.
I tried this on one of the previous sales and will agree with you. Its a nice enough light, very dainty, perfect for the wife to use while camping or if I need something really small in my pocket, but I prefer to just stick with the 18650's.

An $11 flashlight that does not include a battery or a charger like the one its compared to. If you do not already have those things its pretty much going to be the same price. Sure you could use AA batteries, but then the two really arent even comparable with the Nicron only putting out 250 lumens.

18650 batteries are the way to go.

They're more widely used and batteries can easily be harvested from old power tools and power banks. I shucked a few from free single cell power banks I've gotten from expos and career fairs. Re using them for my flashlights. I've even pulled them out of my Dyson vacuum where the bms died but the cells were excellent.

I stumbled on r/18650masterrace on Reddit and now I want everything to run on these cells.
