I was able to get my relative to run a Flash ID (see below). His was brought during this sale https://slickdeals.net/e/13728968-lexar-lns100-480rbna-480gb-sata-3-internal-ssd-29-99-at-staples-com?

There is a chance they might had done some part swapping so I would verify your firmware the original was back in 2018. The original was a 480GB not 512GB, so hopefully the firmware is still marvell and nands are TLC still.

Less than 10 out of nearly 6,000 complain about failure. Based on those reviews, I would not say it is common. Is there anything in Amazon with more than a thousand reviews and less than 2% are 1-star?

Only 4 left in stock; this won't last long, unless they get more stock.
5 hours later…2 in stock... so they sold 2. Get 'em while they are hot? Not quite.

Cs900 has a really high random failure rate due to the phison s11 chipset. Just Google s11 satafirm cs900, mainly a chipset problem not pny. my relative has that n100 for a few years now with the Marvell chipset. Only complaint is it runs relatively warm compared to other sata SSD while idle. Might just have been an issue with his but it's still working 👍
Also PNY denies your warranty for some bs reasons. I have a PNY Pro Elite 1TB that failed and they denied my warranty. Stay away from PNY SSDs.

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to buy this drive during Christmas. However, I feel this drive may use some second run nand chips which are failed on some test on the chip manufacture. The drive may fail at any moment without any signs.

yes but you get the amazing 7 to 9 day prime shipping by ups ground — and that is only when they eventually do ship the item — but recently they started sending Prime items by even slower US Mail

If you have an Amazon business account, the Lexar 480gb NQ100 is $12.65. Low stock, so hurry up.

Need an ssd to speed up my sons desktop for school. Going to keep the 1tb hdd thats in there for extra storage so I really only want a 240 gb ssd (or more). Any suggestion?

This deal seems just right however the back and forth about failures is a bit concerning.

The lexar with a marvel controller and TLC nand is a decent setup if the parts haven't been swap. I personally would go with some the other options below.

Performance (pricey) wise a dram setup would be prefer for a OS driveCheap dram-less options
  • $25 - 512GB Team group Vulkan Z with a SMI SM2259XT controller
  • a couple other teamgroup around this price aren't bad either but use a older revision of the controller. I see a few silicon power but they tend to parts swap so liable would be a concern but is an option as well.

I ordered the Leven. Thank you

I just put in some cheap ssd drives in my other kids computers that I got for free a long time back from Microcenter. Made a huge difference in performance so far.

Was the cheap SSD a inland professional? I be a bit cautious on that drive since it's a phison S11. The one we had randomly lost it's ability to boot and got a free replace a microcenter and a few weeks later same thing. It would disconnect from various usb connector (jmicron / asmedia) when other ssd didn't have any issue. Eventually we resort to using it as a internal cache drive. The drive is fast for copying and pasting files but anything for
OS i would hesitate. surprising no infamous SATAFIRM S11 yet.
