Finde diese Festplatte nicht sehr gut. Sie hatte so brumnendes Geräusch verursacht bei der Ansteuerung der Festplatte. Habe sie wieder zurück geschickt

I don't like this hard drive very much. It had caused such buzzing noise when controlling the hard drive. I sent her back

Two very different models here, and the prices reflect that. The P310 is an iteration of the P300, which uses a budget-oriented Phison E13T DRAM-less controller and 96-layer Toshiba TLC.

The VPN110 is more performance-oriented model with a Phison E12 controller w/ DRAM and similar Toshiba TLC NAND.

Either are good options at this price point, but just keep in mind that they are very different models.

Thank you for not using the word "performant"

Barring initial load times, will in-game performance (frame rate, fps , smoothness, response , lag, etc) improve if using Gen 4 NVMe vs Gen 3 NVMe?

Heatsink on the VPN110 is not removable. So it cannot be used in laptops.

Across the board, SSD prices are plummeting. It's crazy to get a 2TB NVMe SSD for 100 bucks.

I believe microcenter was selling their 2TB QLC for $89 before but getting a TLC for 2TB under and a decent controller would be a good deal ^^

prior to directstorage, it will have no bearing on gaming performance whatsoever. we don't know how much impact (if any) it will have once directstorage is implemented. keep in mind, the game developers themselves have to implement directstorage api in their games for us to actually take advantage of our nvme storage (and even when it's implemented, we don't know how well each game will be optimized and whether directstorage will actually make a meaningful difference).

the latest information we have is that pcie gen 3.0 nvme drives should meet the requirements for Microsoft's directstorage. whether that will change far into the future as the games become much more expansive and detailed, who knows. but i have a feeling that it'll be a very, very long time before gen 3.0 is a bottleneck for gaming.

long story short, don't worry about gen 3 vs 4 for gaming until it becomes an actual thing. and by an actual thing, i don't mean rumors or news, but when the games you actually play will be affected and by how much. i just wouldn't want you to overpay for something that you won't utilize for years when SSD prices come down a lot more.

but hey, if you'd rather spend a little extra to get a gen 4.0 for a peace of mind, by all means go for it. just don't succumb to the FUD spread around by faux-enthusiasts on SD who declare that any SSDs that's not as good as a 980 pro or SN850X are complete garbage. they're too vocal and misinformed.

Would the p310 be good as a game storage or back up drive? I know those 2 use cases are a bit different from each other. Thanks

Everything is removable with a little bit of elbow grease...

Whether it'll still be functional is a different story.
