With every breath I take in Harbor Freight I feel like I am one step closer to my first visit with an oncologist.

The digital adapters are intriguing. But the traditional torque wrench options are Pittsburg, Quinn and Iconic. Pittsburg brand is just a bit questionable in my mind to trust it on critical work. The Quinn and Iconic wrenches would appear to be of good quality but hardly affordable.

I would suggest for traditional wrenches one check out Lexivon or Tekton brands on Amazon. Less than $40 and you will find only 2 or 3 percent negative one star reviews. IMO a step up from Pittsburg especially the 1/4" torque wrench.
I have Tekton and loooooove their stuff. It has taken a beaten with no issues. I would buy their tools again in a heartbeat.

To all the companies that played with prices and took advantage of the consumers over the past few years, I hope the realization that brand reputation not the big company name sells itself is important.

This still hasn't set in for many as Nvidia and ATI GPU prices and profit margins have shown us, however for a poor customer service company that sells china junk for half the shelf space to make front page with inflated prices couponed down to retail pre coupon prices in the past is a very sad predicament.

Anyone tried the Neiko or Acdelco digital torque adaptors and how it compares to HF torque adapters? Their prices are comparable so I want to see which one are the better options here. Thanks.
I don't have the HF adapter so I cannot compare, but I have the Neiko digital adapter. It has been working great. I used my mechanical husky torque wrench and clicks/beeps line up within a couple ft/lbs at 80 ft/lbs.

So if you have a good reference mechanical torque wrench, that's an easy way to check the HF torque adapter.

The only negative is to make sure to keep a spare battery around, especially when you are travelling/going on a track day.

In case anyone missed it, the Pittsburg torque wrenches, if you want to go that cheap on the thing you are working on, currently have a coupon for $11.99:

Torque on any fastener is very critical. I am surprised everyone is price shopping on this item. I guess the Harbor Freight products will give you plus or minus 50%. As another post indicates, watch the Project Farm comparisons. If you are spending less than a few hundred on a torque wrench, you might just ball park the torque with your hand.
There have been plenty tests of Pittsburgh torque wrenches posted to youtube that have found them to be reliable and their claims of +/-4% to be accurate.

I've used one for years when I swap/rotate my wheels and I haven't had any issues. I'm not going to be spend $400 on a Snap-On.

When they work properly, the Pittsburghs are plenty accurate for most needs.

Unfortunately, they often don't work properly. There'll likely be some percentage of times that they are out of that range and, probably the most irritating issue, they will often either fail to click or the click won't be noticeable enough and the user will blast right past their desired torque setting without knowing it.

That $400 Snap-on won't have these issues and will be very reliable. The Pittsburgh on the other hand, eh, maybe good enough for wheels, suspension, and brakes, but not sure I'd trust them somewhere really important.

Agreed. A few years ago I used a HF torque wrench when installing a new rear shock. The torque wrench was faulty and never clicked. I kept tightening even though alarm bells were going off in my head that it didn't feel right. Eventually I broke the bolt that the shock was mounted to. . Ended having to take it to a shop to have them drill it out and weld in a new bolt. What a pain.

I still have HF torque wrenches, but I built a little contraption to at least do a few sanity checks with weights. I also started trusting my gut more rather than blindly trusting the tools.

unpopular opinion: if you aren't calibrating/ checking your torque wrench occasionally you are doing sub par work. also if you're not unloading click types to spec, we'll, read the above. it's why a lot of people prefer beam type wrenches. the hf is similar to every other generic click type torque wrench, I can't see much difference internal/external and operation with various brands.

you can check your values with various scales. best option being a travel scale with the pull rope attached appropriately. this won't give you completely accurate results but it's better than not.

if you think price or brand = value and reliability, you're going to have a bad time.
