For existing Arlo customers, you probably received an email for the End Of Life (EOL) announcement for a number of Arlo cameras (Arlo Q, Arlo Pro, etc.)

There is an email today with the subject "Arlo EOL and Offer Details" that includes a (presumably one-time use) code for:
  • 50% off ANY Arlo camera or video doorbell (limit 5 devices)
  • 75% off ANY Arlo Secure subscription service for 12 months

Wow this totally suck balls.

On the other hand, for those of you whose ISP can somehow work with DDNS, you should still be able to access recordings remotely from the app, just that there's no preview.

Still sucks. May as well move to a different ecosystem for good.

This blows.

Got the notification email on 1/1/23 with no discounts in sight.

I got 5 of these cameras that are gonna be hit with the EOL.
Definitely going to switch it out with another system.

Hope Arlo gets hit with a class action.

I got an email from them saying that the service for my doorbell camera is increasing 66% from $36/year to $60/year, but nothing about a discount or EOL for other Arlo cameras.

I'm still pissed that I didn't receive a code for their annual Secure Plan from the holiday bundle promotion…despite emailing them several times as well as using their Chat feature…the most awful company to deal with..

So the EOL cameras will continue to work as long as you have a Secure Subscription Plan?

My email says that I can still record locally. I checked the app and I have the ability to flick on "record locally". Does this mean I can continue to have the product work as it does today only having the video local vs cloud? I'm ok if that is the case.

Taking away 7 day free recording is a deal breaker for me and amounts to back stabbing existing customers.

How can EOL cause 7 day storage to stop working but paid subscription wil work with the same exact hardware? Hoping that a class action suit follows here.

I will give up on the arlo eco system once EOL kicks in.

Are there any open source solutions out there where my camera (doesn't have to be arlo) will send from local store to the cloud, notify me (email is fine) and delete after n days?

Once my camera alerts stop coming, I will setup a Google alert with the query
Arlo pro class action suit EOL.

Just remember that blink did similar 2 years ago but they haven't forced subs yet. They just don't do free anymore with anything past blink 2. It's bullshit lying. They all claim free forever to get you in but whoops we can't honor anymore. Spends lots of money on subscription for the same thing you got for free

I got the EOL email but the camera models don't align with anything on my account. For example under Device Info my driveway cam says Hardware: H7 and then lists the firmware and SN. Also have H15 and H16 cameras

Anyone know how to determine what cameras I have?

To find your model number go to the Arlo Secure App > Settings > Support Center > Click on specific camera > Scroll down to Details section to view product model number.

You lose a lot of function with only local storage and can no longer view recordings from the app. You must remove the USB drive or memory card and plug it into a computer first.

You will still get a notification the camera was triggered, but have no way to see what happened on the app unless you use Live View while still in progress.

If a package was dropped on your porch, you won't know if it was UPS or Fedex because you can't view the recording easily. Or if there was motion inside your house when no one should be home, you can't check the recording quickly to know there is a clown hiding in your basement. 🔪🤡🪓

So why doesn't the Arlo EOL announcement mention this? Because the CEO of the company thinks you are so dumb you will buy new cameras from them, or pay for cloud service that was originally free.

This is false. See my post above.

Does it loose features without cloud recording - yes.

I used to have Arlo Pro (Now Ultra 2, an no, I'm not budging and will never pay for subscription even with Ultra 2), it does not have smart notification that differentiates between vehicle / person / animal, just simply says Motion detected.

You still get notification, and you can still do live stream.

To view local recording, in the app, go to Library tab, then at the top select the name of your basestation (default is Cloud). You will then see all the clips without taking out the USB drive from basestation, although you will not see thumbnail, just a "download" logo, listing all the activities recorded with time and duration.

To do so from remote, you need to have VPN back to your home, or setup port forwarding, if your ISP allows.

Not hard, but confusing.

I considered taking advantage of the reduced cloud storage price for 1 year as it's cheaper than getting a new camera setup but I don't want to give this company another dollar of my money after this. Any recommendations on a good replacement? Looking at the Lorex offerings from Costco. Any thoughts?
