I would characterize them a better value and overall more progressive / faster to react to or even set trends than Trek.
They used to make their bikes in Taiwan as "everyone" based in NA, but last few years they've switched to - I believe - Indonesia for their Alloy frames and use the OEM that is the parent company to Polygon, also a highly under-rated manufacturer.

As others have mentioned it'll be $100 for shipping because they charge $50/bike regardless of whether you pick an adult or child bike for the BOGO deal.
