Hope the one you get doesn't say refurbished by FedEx.....Also, what is their written standard for a battery to be considered defective?

Officially Dell says the battery has to last less than 90 minutes to get replacement. However, unsatisfied users have been able to get replacements by emailing/calling.

You can test the battery by running 'powercfg /batteryreport' from Windows Powershell and/or using HWMonitor.

FYI - a recently expired front page hot deal used the same coupon code and the thread has some good refurbished info: Dell Latitude 15,6" 5591 Laptop: i5-8400H, 16GB RAM, 500GB HDD (Refurbished) $249

That unit was a 5000 series, whereas this is a 7000 series. That unit had an 8th Gen i5-8400H (optimized for performance), this unit has an 8th Gen i5-8350U (optimized for battery life). That unit had a 15" screen with only (1366 x 768) display, this unit has a 14" screen with (1920 x 1080) display. That unit had a slow 500GB SATA drive, this unit has a 256GB SSD drive. That unit did have 16GB RAM, but this unit has 1x 8GB and is easily upgradeable.

How bad are the FedEx refurbs? And is there a way to make sure you don't get one from FedEx?

I haven't purchased from that dellrefurbished.com site yet but have been watching the deals on it. I did find some bad reviews about units, especially the "refurbished by fedex" devices here: https://www-resellerratings-com.c...efurbished

One I got the screen goes blank every 5 or 10 minutes, the other has a bad SSD, error popped up a minute or 2 after booting up. Also the battery is only 84%. Refurbished seems to be slapping a sticker on the bottom and wiping the top off.

Been waiting for the backlit keyboard, upgradeable to Win11 and expandable memory. In for one to replace my man cave Dell 1545 that is maxed out on CPU and RAM upgrades. Thanks OP.

How does Dell Refurb usually ship their laptops? Do they use FEDEX, USPS, or UPS?

Looks good except for the FedEx refurbished possibility and the wimpy warranty period.

So Dell believes it is totally acceptable to sell Business class laptops with only 1 1/2 hrs battery life. I don't think any consumer would be happy with that when it originally had a 9 hr plus battery life. Their refurbished standards appear to be set very low. They seem to be happy to sell them as long as they look pretty.
