I don't think any of these option provide the ability to record. With the right head unit, it could be configured to record to an SD card, but since the camera is activated by the reverse lights, a toggle switch would be needed to power the camera on/off if there was a desire to record from the rear full time. A lot of work. Also, this would likely not allow a front dashcam to be utilized by the head unit at the same time.

This is a reverse cam for when you are backing up. Everyone trying to reinvent the damn thing, which is $10, needs to stop being a cheapass and go spend the money on precisely what you are looking for. smh

This is a backup camera, not a dashcam. You don't need to be able to record yourself backing out of the driveway.

Why would they think it's shill. Nowadays everything someone doesn't like is a "shill".
I actually appreciate it. You can use this as so many things not just back up camera. The problem is that it's not complete. For example can you use something like this with an old tablet? That would be best way to get these, and then tablet can be connected to OBDII for automatically displaying the footage, but that's just an idea. Do a small LCD monitor would so be useful, with a wired relay that makes screen come on when back up lights come on, simple and very cheap in the old days with fuse boxes but not so cheap and easy with recent cars when everything runs though computer.
Other use would be adding front camera, which is very useful getting out of tight spaces or parking to see where you are parking.

I think they want to use it as dash cam. Very good idea and it's always recording and outside the car.
How do people wire these to get inside, drill through firewall or chassis?

I just run the wires inside the covering that connects the factory wires of the hatch or trunklid to the vehicle interior then down along the door sills to the front. Can also run them along the roof line but need to be mindful of the air bags located along the path. The only drilling is for the mount holes of the camera or a peep hole to insert the camera on those type. Each vehicle presents its own challenges and not something you want do without planning it out first. They also have wireless ones which mount around your liscense plate and you install the receiver up front. No wires to run through the vehicle but the video is not the best on those type.
