A small quiet compressor like this coupled with a light flexible hose and pneumatic nailers with no trigger delay that are significantly smaller and lighter than their battery operated counterparts is a win in my book.

Except for a really quick job, I'd much rather deal with a compressor and hose than the size and weight and delay of battery operated guns.

Compressors are coming down, as people move to battery operated nail guns.

The nailer and stuff only need the tank correct? So technically for quick job you can plug into the tank for portable light weight without the motor. I kinda wish the tank here can be disconnected for that portable purpose too. For 1 or 2 nail you shouldn't need the motor to re-pressurize the tank.
You can buy a portable air tank for pretty cheap, I use one regularly. Fill with my compressor then disconnect and take where I need it. Even met up with the wife once to air up her tire when it had a leak so she could drive home. I have a portable 12v compressor for tires but they're less reliable and a lot slower than a tank of air.

I did the opposite. I replaced my battery powered nail gun for this compressor and a couple pneumatic air guns. Battery powered framing nailers are especially expensive and very heavy.

Just make sure you get a nice thin flexible air hose to work with when nailing. It makes all the difference. I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R8LH3E

I also use the compressor to blow off my bench, sander, projects, etc. Super convenient, and since it's only a couple of gallons, it fills up quickly. Before these small, quiet compressors existed, I almost never fired up my 25g system (now sold).

Mounted how? The unit is designed to be operated upright (as pictured)...there may (or may not) be some mechanical reason why that would be a bad idea. Whatever you do you want to keep the tank drain fitting pointed down so you can shed moisture when you bleed the tank, which should be after ever use.

The Makita is 60db and the California is 56 db. But keep in mind that db is a logarithmic scale and in increase or decrease in 3db is a doubling/halving of intensity. That doesn't actually mean the California is going to be half as loud as the Makita, but it will probably be noticeably quieter.

keep in mind air compressors have duty cycles. if you're using the compressor with moderate loads or higher continuously you'll want to upgrade. oil-less compressors can be a mixed bag of garbage for any brand.

id sooner look at the mcgraws at harbor freight, consider a warranty maybe. they're only 4scfm @ 90psi and 135psi max, but they'll do almost anything you could want CONTINUOUSLY, minus hvlp, grinders, orbitals. unless your nail gun has a smaller cylinder and requires over 135 psi to drive something like a 3" ring shank nail. the only difference between the two is price and tank as far as I know, might be worth getting the bigger tank for the buffer.

I know I know, "harbor freight bad!". a lot of up don't understand pressure/ volume, load time, resistance, etc. so I don't think you can comment, unless out of ignorance. op's compressor is only 2cfm @ 90psi and 60db, hf is 4cfm @ 90 psi and 85 db. if you can take the extra noise, they all max out at 135 psi, and you can coupon the harborfreight.

I see too many people over loading and burning up their little compressors and having to buy another one, when a properly sized one will do everything you want. if you can manage the size.
You're missing the point of this Makita compressor. It's not the most powerful or most useful, but it is one of the more quiet ones on the market for a decent price and build quality. This model is all about delivering "enough" air for lots of smaller jobs with as little noise as possible. The louder compressors will drive you crazy and make you not want to use them. Better air compressors at a similar size probably exist but you won't like using them nearly as much due to the noise.

Is this too small for doing baseboards around the house and framing?

This model has a steel tank. I'd rather spend a little more for aluminum.

Here's a guy comparing the 1 gallon models. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffAR4vGFdlo
It's hard to tell how these manufacturers come up with their decibal ratings. They could be raitng them from 6 feet away.

I've had a Husky 60db model (a rebadged CAT) for about 5 years. It's still super quiet and working great and I doubt I'll ever go back to noisy compressors again.

I think your setup is more practical.

Got one in Eden Prairie 55344. There was one left, in the air tools aisle up top opposite side of the aisle.

Can anyone speak to the value of something like this Makita compressor vs the Rigid one they have on sale 6gal, that comes with 3 tools. It is about 50% louder.

As far as loudness, 60 db is like normal conversation or a washing machine from 3 feet away.
80 db is a vacuum cleaner or a busy downtown street. You have to yell to be heard over it and you wouldn't want to be inside a room with it for long.
