I mean for that price you can take a gamble with this entry level model. For the duration of the warranty see if the enamel chips. If it does, you can return it. If not, you got yourself a functional cheapo dutch oven.

For reference, a Tramontina, which I use practically every day, can be had for not much more when on sale, and even in a braiser form which is ideal for much of the cooking. The next level would be the likes of Staub or LeCreuset, cheapest would be $150 for a similar one when on sale, but that you can be sure of quality and it is even dishwashable (but not too often,) while the similar description for this current one is misleading.

I hear return lines at Walmart are long after winter holidays...

No need to go to the store to return. You got an option of a Fedex pick up or drop off at Post office.
Although for something this cheap and heavy, Walmart will most likely just refund and ask you to dispose it.

The shape is a little odd in my opinion, as the sides seem a little tall to me. I wish I needed one, but I have too many Dutch ovens already. For bread bakers, this may be an ideal pan, and $20 is a heck of a deal for enameled cast iron.

I agree. (Also, I personally like the green color.)

Isn't it cutting it too close for baking? Most recipes I know require baking for at least 15 minutes at 230 C which is 446 F, and this is rated for 450 F.

I'm not sure, but it could be because of the knob. I don't think the problem is with the enamel or cast iron. You could probably remove the knob when baking at that high of temperature.

Knob is flimsy and for serious uses it should be replaced anyway. Cast iron is not threatened at 450 F, but enamel could be, especially in concert with thermal expansion of cast iron, which can cause chipping. That is the main concern here.

What do you replace it with? Suggestions?

I guess either do your own research or take others' ideas such as https://www.frugallivingnw.com/du...ent-knobs/

Of course any extra cost would cut into this deal.
