Reward points change:
The second change is that on February 14, 2023, earning points on eligible Best Buy purchases will become an exclusive benefit of the My Best Buy® Credit Card.
I know that sucks! But tbh I feel like I barely get rewards as a non credit card holder but I personally feel as if free shipping offsets it.
Yes.

This is actually a winner for those who DONT regularly shop there. They even get to save more $ on the spot as a perk versus needing to spend $250 to get a measly perk of $5 reward certificate.

Immediate dividend is what I'm talking about.

OLED is great but it doesn't make non 4k content look great compare to HD. Your just sitting too far from your TV to tell the difference. Even the compressed 4k of streaming has noticable difference then their HD.

People can definitely tell the difference and a lot of people have the premium tier.
I don't know I own most of the movie on Netflix and most of the more popular films aren't in 4k it's mainly Netflix original content which I don't like. And there picture quality isn't better then apple or Disney+

Best Buy was my preferred store until they dropped all the earned benefits (based on previous year's spend) of their higher My Best Buy tiers a few months into the year. That just seems wrong.

My spending at Best Buy for the rest of the year went down to $0. Not necessarily out of spite, but without a tie-breaker, I'll take the convenience of Amazon (mail) or Target (closer to home).
I racked up my Elite Plus status by buying gift cards (which were needed for a work function). Back in Sept, they even removed point accumulation when buying GCs. The 45 day, extra points and 2-day or same day shipping were nice while it lasted.

If no one has answered yet, yes, if you use certificates for a purchase and end up returning, they refund the certificates.

Screw best buy. I returned an unopened chromebook and they gave me a partial refund because they charged $29.99 for some webroot security crap that I never purchased.
The same happened to me but I noticed it in the store and made them refund the webfoot $30 as well but you are right if i had not caught it right there it would have been a hassle... Now i make sure i remove it from cart while buying

I didn't leave it out. I specifically mentioned you have to pay for the 4K tier.

I do agree with you that once you are on 4K, it's difficult to differentiate video quality between streaming services. That's why I mentioned audio codecs. Some services like Hulu are still on 5.1 audio. Was just trying to say that one cannot make a case that Netflix is lacking other streaming on a technical level. But of course, they make you pay for the privilege. The post I replied to made it seem like Disney+ has 4K content while Netflix is still on HD. (At least if felt that way to me).
Tyour right, that person wrote Netflix barely had 4k. They most likely don't have the premium tier as Netflix is mainly 4k as that's pretty much their requirement, to movie and TV show producers, for all new content.

Netflix doesn't have too many non-originals anymore.

Now you are coparong Netflix 4k vs your Blu ray 4ks? Thers no comparison your Vlu rays are better.

No one said Netflix 4k is better then any streaming services 4 either. I think they say Disney 4k quality is the best of the streaming apps

I usually do as well but I wasn't paying attention to the extra free stuff. It was a free 3 months of youtube premium and a free webroot security. I spoke to someone in chat and he acted like I he didn't know what I was talking about.

You left out the most important detail. Only the most expensive plan $19.99 premium can stream 4k. And let's face it, no one here pays for the premium service. Their library is big, but you pay for it. When you actually stream on the OLED you can't tell a difference between streaming services.
Premium allows 4 users at once and 4k. Split it 3 ways with family with the same last name and it comes out to under $7/mo. I'm guessing more than you'd imagine here are paying for the premium service. All these OLED and flagship LED sets watching in 720p or 1080p seems like such a waste.

Awesome had a$5 certificate but didn't really wanna drive 20 minutes to best buy. Grabbed an$8 item for$3 with free shipping. This will probably make me buy more at best buy in the end. Usually I only wanna grab 1 item from them sporadically but didn't always hit the free ship threshold. Thanks op

When they removed the best buy rewards tier membership and replaced it with the tech membership for $$$ at the same time removing the free shipping they finally realized they were wrong
EXACTLY!

Best Buy was very short-sighted with their change in the program to become Total Tech for $$$ back in March 2022. As Jeremy Iron's character in margin call said "There are three ways to make a living in this business: be first, be smarter, or cheat." Amazon was first, and everyone else has been playing catch-up thinking their service will do just as well.

Walmart thought their $99 service would work. While they have the cheap chinese shit like Amazon does, the problem is people like to SHOP in Walmart, and they are ok delivering things to the stores for pickup. No need to pay $99 for that right.

Best Buy thought their $199 service would work. Thing is, they LACK the cheap chinese shit. And similarly, while most people don't have a Best Buy store NEAR them, in an absolute worst case, they will be ok with driving out of the way to do store pickup. Moreover, they know that most BB deals are matched by the competitors (Amazon, Walmart, Target). So there is no need to pay $199 for that crap (and the added benefits were not worth $199 - ROFL Geek Squad). Best Buy probably realized their mistake and lowered the shipping minimum threshold to bring back sales that they have otherwise lost over the last year. Dopes.

not arguing with most of your points, and the the $200 price tag being a big much. but best buy also offers 24 month warranty on most items you buy if you're a TT member. this is a good deal for most and also includes apple care for apple devices.

That just took away one of the major reasons to have totaltech
Was there ever one?
  • Free GeekSquad...who uses that?
  • Special member pricing...the prices are either eventually made available to everyone, or Amazon & Walmart match them.
  • Free install and haul away...most people prefer to do their own install. But its not worth $199.
  • Extended warranty coverage - useful, if you are the kind of person who breaks their toys.
  • VIP chat...this was never really that useful compared to the regular phone line when I had this as a MyBestBuy Premium member.
  • Free 2-day shipping...you could still get free shipping with a minimum, and store-pickup or ship-to-store was always free.
  • Extended 60 day return window - it doesn't eliminate restocking fees or the activated device return window.
I think the most useful of the items are free install and extended warranty coverage. Problem is, most techies/capable people don't ever need either.
