Reward points change:
The second change is that on February 14, 2023, earning points on eligible Best Buy purchases will become an exclusive benefit of the My Best Buy® Credit Card.
This is actually a winner for those who DONT regularly shop there. They even get to save more $ on the spot as a perk versus needing to spend $250 to get a measly perk of $5 reward certificate.
Immediate dividend is what I'm talking about.

Thing is, the population of people who would actually use these things is not that great. People don't think to shop Best Buy for big items that makes free install + haul away useful. Ask people about where to shop for a washer & dryer, they'll say HD, Lowes, Amazon. Ask people where to shop for a fridge, they'll say the same. And while free AppleCare is great, that requires Apple lovers making the choice to buy at Best Buy over say...the Apple store. Sure, we here on SD love seeing those deals pop up for iPad on discount, or AirPods on discount at Best Buy. But the majority of people go to Apple store.

It's pretty typical that I would end up shy of the $35 needed for free shipping and then abandon whatever was in the cart. My local store does not have the greatest stock, and has twice cancelled items I bought for pick-up because they didn't actually have them. (The first time, I was able to switch it to shipping, but the second was just cancelled with no option.)
I don't order enough from Best Buy to rack up certificates, so this is long term much better for the amount of stuff I buy.

- Free GeekSquad...who uses that?
- Special member pricing...the prices are either eventually made available to everyone, or Amazon & Walmart match them.
- Free install and haul away...most people prefer to do their own install. But its not worth $199.
- Extended warranty coverage - useful, if you are the kind of person who breaks their toys.
- VIP chat...this was never really that useful compared to the regular phone line when I had this as a MyBestBuy Premium member.
- Free 2-day shipping...you could still get free shipping with a minimum, and store-pickup or ship-to-store was always free.
- Extended 60 day return window - it doesn't eliminate restocking fees or the activated device return window.
I think the most useful of the items are free install and extended warranty coverage. Problem is, most techies/capable people don't ever need either. If the family has multiple MacBooks, iPhones and iPads, all bought at BB with TotalTech, then maybe. But for most people, who sign up thinking they will buy more gear and don't...it's a losing deal.
