Don't go car shopping alone if you have difficulty telling the difference between a 2 series and a 6 series.
Lots of opinions about these 660S versus 6xx from Drop and 560S. Here's a fact that may or may not be important to you...the 660S has 150 Ohm impedance, the others have 300 Ohm impedance. In theory, the 660S will sound good without an amp, i.e. direct from phone or computer in a pinch, or in the unlikely case you don't have a headphone amp.
HD 560S is 120 ohm.

I miss those days when wired Sennheisers were like $20 at newegg, with fairly good sound quality, but paying $250 for the refurb?

If you want cheap and good try the Koss KPH40. Probably the most bang for the buck headphone out there. I have the 660s and really like them. I have seen some folks say they have no bass which I don't think is true. They are by no means bass head levels, but if driven right it is appropriately there. I have never heard any open backs that really slam. I like them better than my 650's. For reference, I use a Woo WA7 since I am sure I will get the 650 underpowered and needs tubes comment. 660s are just more lively to me.

No bass, like none at all! Sundara's we're also going for 250 refurb not too long ago, make sure to look into that if you don't know about them! Not saying what's better but definitely check the word out about them

I am not saying one is better than the other! just making sure people know about other options....

Also r t i n g s scoring does not directly represent the quality of the product, headphones have unique sound signatures for a reason and should not be judged by a flatline signature

Earpads are $60 a pop and recommended YOU replace them every 6months-1year depending on use.

Aftermarket earpads alter the sound too much

Welcome to the audiophile world

Some earpads cost $400.

What does car shopping have to do with this?

Yea it's a bad diss, but nonetheless the person they replied to may have been very misinformed regarding this product.

Efficiency (aka SPL) also matters when considering if a headphone needs an amp or not but I rarely see people in these threads bring that up. (Higher efficiency = easier to power). Sennheiser headphones are almost all high efficiency so the high impedance isn't as big of an obstacle as some make it sound. I still recommend some extra (amp) power for the 6XX, probably the 660S but borderline, and the 560S is the easiest to drive by a long shot because it has the lowest impedance and very high efficiency (110db). There are many excellent affordable ChiFi dongles that will be superior to 99% of mobo or phone audio though so a decent amp isn't hard or expensive to come by.

All good headphones, it just depends on what sound signature you're looking for. If you want to play competitive games I would recommend the 560S over the others simply because the 6X0 headphones have very little soundstage and weird directional imaging. For music listening in this price range I recommend the Sundara over any of these but those are also not ideal for gaming and they definitely need an amp.

I think it's hard to really go wrong with any of these headphones unless you really hate the sound signature.
