12-point sockets are not the best choice for 1/2" drive. Much more likely to round off a fastener.

They still are fine - unless you are working on already damaged fasteners and/or have really cheap ill-fitting sockets. I think it was AvE who recently put out a video showing that with a good bolt and good 12-point socket, the bolt will snap before the head will round.
