Are HD prices dropping due to excess supply?

These are used. Category 9: Shows some signs of use; may exhibit minor scuffs or surface marks but overall looks very clean

The server parts deal from last month (if still running) is a way better deal. Those were "recertified" for $130 but had zero runtime on the two I bought (forgot to look at stats and rebooted system but current server uptime is within 10minutes of total).

14TB Red Plus were just on sale for the same price a few weeks ago. Same MTBF, transfer rate, and workload rate but the red plus has lower idle and read/write power consumption by 2.3W and 1.4W, respectively.

At 10 cents per KWh that could be a savings of $1.70 per year with 24/7 operation!

Fair point but its also about heat its dissipating. In my mind, it must be more friction, more platters, a less efficient motor, etc.

I'm probably missing out on a lot of deals, but I shy away from Newegg and Seagate and Tiger Direct.
