I believe these are marketing strategies. They may have a certain target price, which they'll miss if they make it 5.5 lb.
Alternatively, sometimes companies make the weight different to prevent easy and direct mental comparison with the compettiton in their consumers' minds. This is a NeuroMarketing technique commonly practiced by Costco. Next time you go to Costco, find a kirkland product and its close alternative and look at their price signs; one will give price per lb and the other in oz! They do this so you can't simply compare prices and have to do some math , which is paychologically painful and aversive for most people, so they give up and pick whatever product they're cued to pick. Fascinating stuff!

That will entirely depend on how much you're lifting and what your goals are. If you're just drinking a protein shake after a workout, then a bag will last you a couple months. If you're doing multiple shakes and such, then bags will go quicker. Also if you're looking to build muscle you'll need more protein than if you are just trying to lean up and become more toned.

I generally drink 3 shakes a day (1 in the morning, 1 after working out, and 1 before bed).
Very good post. This is what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Looks like they limit 5 bags for each flavor.

Thanks. I bought during the deal last August ($1 better then). Pretty pleased with it. I'm going to stock up a bit now.

They still have the Dymatize and it's currently on sale, but it's gotten so expensive that it doesn't make sense for most to get it, unless they have sepcial needs:

Well that and my limited experience with it's taste was quite positive. If it was just chocolate/vanilla I would've pulled the trigger on Ascent but man that Peanut butter chocolate sounds good.

Trying to get back into weight-lifting. Not sure about the expiration date and how many bags to buy and not end up wasting. Anyone got any idea? Thanks.
As the other commenters shared, it depends on your size, goals, and training. I also consume about 1g protein / lb bodyweight, as most of the research and super smart podcast people recommend this amount as the sweet spot for muscle gain / retention.

I usually drink one or two whey protein smoothies per day depending on what else I'm eating to round out the 200g I aim for daily. Just about every single day I have this same smoothie for lunch:

1 cup frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1 medium banana
Big handful of frozen mixed greens
1 scoop protein powder
1 1/2 cups milk (almond milk if cutting, whole milk if bulking)
3/4 cup of Greek yogurt
5g creatine

Delicious and nutritious! Comes out to about 600 calories (400 calories with almond milk) and 60g total protein. Can also confirm that this vanilla Ascent Whey is very tasty and not overly sweet.

I just got the 5.64lbs Optimum for $50 each. Someone said that this is cleaner? So this is a better deal then? Should I return the Optimum and get this one instead?

Also, wondering if this is cheaper in store?
Optimum is usually artificial flavor these days, unfortunately. Glad I passed on that deal!

Yeah, Dymatize is great, but too $$ for me.
Alternatively, get Ascent chocolate and mix wit PBfit Big Grin

Will have to look this weekend to see if Dymatize is cheaper in store. Sometimes it's like $5 less in store to take into account shipping.

Nice smoothie! I try to have some component of protein in most meals along with 3 protein shakes a day. So breakfast is usually a protein shake and a bowl of plain oatmeal with added raisins. I'll usually have a couple hard boiled eggs as a snack, along with some peanut butter pretzels. Will do a banana before workout and a protein shake and banana after workout, along with some PostJym that has BCAAs, creatine, glutamine, and some other stuff.

Lunch is usually a sandwich with a decent amount of lunchmeat on it and a slice of cheese, along with a salad. Will have a oikos greek yogurt and a piece of fruit as a snack in the afternoon. Dinner tends to be a salad with a good serving of protein on it or some sort of protein, vegetables, and a small amount of carb.

Then dessert is some protein bar and then a protein shake before bed.

Also make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day so your body can recover.

It's worth looking at the Dymatize tubs on Amazon for targeted deals, plus the prices are always jumping around. Look at each flavor. I got 3lb of the cocoa puffs one for $35 the other day.

Wow, those cholesterol numbers are super low for protein powder. Might have to give this a try.
Dietary cholestorl does not increase circulating cholestrol, so it's fine, espceially if you're active. Same with egg yolk cholestrol.

For my post workout smoothie, I also add a pack of sambazon acai (also on sale at Costco now), but I omit the greens as it affects the taste too much. I put half of the milk, as I'm already getting enough dairy goodness from the greek yogurt and whey. Instead, I add half a cup of inner leaf Aloe vera juice. A couple teaspoons of Chia seeds adds a nice appearance and great fiber. I usually also add a quarter cup of coconut milk, or MCT oil.

This brand is awesome, ordered this a couple months ago from Costco to try it out and it was great. I did Vanilla last time but will try Chocolate this go around.
