Deluxe Desktop version handles stocks, crypto (Where does it say it covers crypto, cant find it in version comparison!!!), IRA/ROTH, interest income etc and imports the 1099 information from your brokerage account. You dont need Premier Desktop version to do it (the online versions are different). Deluxe includes the step by step walk through as well
Costco's version includes $10 credit which for an additional TurboTax service like e-file of state return. (State e-file is $20.) If you e-file state, Costco price is essentially the same cost as the Amazon deal and Newegg is $5 more.
If you expect any sizable state refund, e-file is probably worth it to avoid the delay in paper return processing.
For the people asking if this will get any cheaper: Last year I was monitoring the prices, I don't recall them getting cheaper as deadline approached. They got marginally more expensive with time IIRC.
For the people asking if the online version goes on sale. I don't ever remember it ever being on sale, but Robinhood gave $10 off if you used their link with them last year.
Yeah that's a bit sketch. Not saying it necessarily was, but it's that exact situation you hear about all the time - some people always went to a preparer because they got more $$ back, not realizing the preparer was filing improperly, and that THEY are the ones liable for the illegal return because they signed it.
That said I can certainly see situations where the preparer/CPA might notice more deductions/credits you can take, although I will say Intuit does a lot of handholding, asking questions about stuff you've done in the year, and that's all geared toward saving you $$.
A few years ago, back when I first got out of college, I filled out TT for us (at the time no kids) and it came up with that I owed a bunch of $$ which was odd. So I filled out HR and TA as well, just for multiple sources (each will give you a refund/owe figure without paying for it), and HR actually came out more $$ than the other 2. Turned out that HR was incorrectly applying a penalty fee for whatever reason (basically if your income jumps year over year they don't penalize you for underpayment, or at least that's how it used to be).

I hate this, the different versions between online vs. download/desktop/CD versions are not clear. Only thing I know that's proven is the ONLINE turbotax has import features for exchanges directly into the software. At this point I'm still uncertain as to if deluxe will have that feature or not. I know deluxe download has the forms but that doesn't mean it'll be easy.
Did you figure this out. I can not find a clear answer anywhere.
Essentially Online only - Premium, if you want to connect accounts and have it automatically do a good amount of the work for you.
The download/CD/physical whatever will do it but not automatically. You'll import forms that you can easily generate, Taxbit is my solution, free and can generate tax docs to import so I bought the cheap HR Block.
