Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

For those who got the December 2022 deal with $7500 off plus 10k free supercharger miles on a M3LR, it would be a good deal if you are above the income caps and can't get the $7500 tax credit even with the lowered starting price now. If you do qualify for the credit, then the deal right now is better.

Why would anyone purchase a car from a company that forces you to sign an NDA before they'll take care of under warranty defects?

I wish I could say more...

I'm right there with you bud. Picked mine up on the 29th of December and now this… 😣😣
Oh, hey, that's the exact same day I picked up mine... lol. For the most part, I've made peace with it. I was reading about how since last week, recent Tesla car buyers in China have been protesting because they're in the same position we are, as Tesla dropped prices on their cars in China. I've been thinking about it, and although it sucks that I missed out on saving ~$12,000, I was happy when I bought it at the price I paid, and I should be happy now.

Take care,

soooo... for $45,490?

Your Model Y
$54,630
Excluding taxes & other fees

Your design qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit for eligible buyers.

Considering placing an order for a blue or silver color Model Y, which will increase the MSRP by 1k, and overall order over 55k. Does the order fee and destination fee count towards the 55k limit? I believe it doesn't but appreciate if someone who knows can confirm.

i just tax loss harvested a shit load of losses back in december for 2022, so much so that i didn't even make shit last year lol. can i still get this EV credit?
Your claimed capital losses will come off your taxable income, reducing your tax bill. Your maximum net capital loss in any tax year is $3,000. The IRS limits your net loss to $3,000 (for individuals and married filing jointly) or $1,500 (for married filing separately).

The 7.5k is on taxes paid not income.

Never mind, I see someone else posted this question while I was typing my post. Destination charge seems to be excluded from the 55k calculation.

Nope, you can see if your configuration qualifies for the credit at the bottom of the page. FSD, wall charger, destination and document fee doesn't towards 55K limit

So this means:
1. $7500 cash back after we file our federal taxes (assuming you don't owe any taxes)?
Or
2. $7500 tax write off (similar to donating $7500 to charity)?
Says credit

Sorry, question on model 3 rwd. How much was it in Nov? Dec? And now? I know there is a tax credit now, but did the price from Tesla itself change too?

More interested in solar panels for the roof discount. I'll never trade my gas car for electric.

I was in the market for a certified Lexus and about to buy one this month, but at this price I would rather go with a model Y to replace my aging ICE vehicle. Already have another dependable ICE car for the rare occasions when I must use a gas powered vehicle.
