Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Simple gif what you owe > $7500 : you get the complete 7500 credit
If what you owe < $7500 ; you dont get any money back from IRS
No, if you had 4000 in tax liability, you'd qualify for that amount from federal ev tax rebate.

People with tax questions. Look at your 2021 1040 tax form. If line 24 is at least $7500 and your 2023 income is the same or above 2021 you'll maximize the $7500 ev credit. Simple as that.

These things are so hard to predict !! I had 10k equity last april on my x3 and decided to wait for couple of months, and when it was time to sell, the used car market drop and I had only 1k equity. Just enjoy your car and get many other deals here to save money
Thanks, I completely agree. I read Tofu's other post and soothe down. I am happy with the car, it is a good car. That is more important. Plus, I lost far more than $13k on Tesla stock LOL and I made peace with myself.

I have friends who bought it without any of these discounts. The ones who bought during Dec '22 sale should be happy in this case.
A slick deal always makes people happy. That is also the reason we have so many bitters here. bc we did not get the best deals.

Tax Credit is if you have a tax liability. It is not related to your tax withholdings (but you can be penalized for not having enough withholdings). So you reduce your tax liability by up to $7500. That can either be a refund of what was withheld, or reducing how much you owe at tax filing time. Non-refunding credit just means if you have no tax liability, the fed govern won't pay you more than your tax liability.

Currently driving a 2021 VW ID.4 and have a 2023 Toyota Prius LE on order/waitlist at a few dealerships... This is tempting to cancel the Prius and jump to a Model 3 or Model Y.

I'm somewhat looking forward to get rid of the VW ID.4 mainly due to the charging infrastructure in California; well mainly Electrify America and the road trip experience where it added about 2.5 hour extra going from Bay Area to SD; which is why I'm mainly switching back to hybrid for now...
I'm choosing between the two. What's you take charging infrastructure aside? Always feels like tesla is too primitive inside and the look is getting old...

Not sure that's correct. Believe you have to owe at least $7500 in taxes to get that full $7500 credit. So if you only owed $5000 in federal taxes, you'd only get $5000 back out of the $7500. At least, that's how I've always understood this to work historically.
Yes, that's what I just read from the IRS website. There's no rebate back if you owe less than 7500.

I'd like to convince my family to get one more Tesla, but after they heard my experience with them I don't think they will. we're not against the idea of Tesla or any ev, but I had placed an order 2nd week of November and was told that I wouldn't get the car until at least December, fast forward to Thanksgiving weekend, I was told my car was ready to pick up and I have to choose a pick up date. I hadn't finished all the paperwork, etc yet and I wanted to pick a later date, in December, but the app only allowed me to pick the next 3 days (last 3 days of November). Not wanting to call customer support and go through waiting for a human to correct an app error (or so I thought it was), I went ahead and pick up 2 days before December. December comes and they announce all kinds of incentives, and guess who didn't get any. Frown
After 3 delays by Tesla, I canceled my 11/2021 order in October when they started to harass me to pick up the car after just one week notice. Told the cocky ass "rep" to go eat a "dck" and took a $250 write off. Was pissed but now it's peanut compared to what you guys lost. The last straw with Tesla for me was driving a friend's model 3 in seattle and it started dumping rain while i had to fiddled around dangerously on the freeway blind trying to located and press the farking wiper mode function on the screen.

I still would like to see the math of how you're missing out on a $7,500 cash money check from the IRS/government.
