Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

If your state is still using natural gas or coal as souce of energy then buying electric vehicle is pointless.

If I buy an eligible EV now, can I use my 2022 income to qualify for 7500$ tax credit and no need to worry about 2023 income thresholds???

As IRS website is saying "You can use your modified AGI from the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less. If your modified AGI is below the threshold in 1 of the two years, you can claim the credit."

Was hoping to do a refundable reservation and think later, but it appears they required a $250 non-refundable order Fee. Tried to order a Red 5-seater but the Red color pushes the price over $55,000 so disqualifies the tax credit. I'm more than a little worried that the 7-seater Model Y can't accommodate 3 car seats. Anyone have any clue? I have 2 Chicco NextFit car seats and those are pretty wide and bulky. Would hate to waste hundreds of dollars to buy entirely new car seats to fit a Model Y.

I'm already locked in the $7500 tax credit with the Rivian R1S, but they say expect delivery late 2023. The Rivian R1S so so much more roomy and would work, but that delivery date is a concern. The Model Y delivery date is better, but that interior dimension is a little concerning.

I mean, you got $7500 credit from Tesla directly right? I did as I picked mine on the 24th. I am also in the same boat as you. I think we lost around 5k.
With the $7500 Tesla credit (from Dec) and the $7500 tax credit (if you are eligible) almost canceling each other, what you are really losing is close to the net price drop, which is approximately $12k, assuming you got a model Y.

STILL VERY EXPENSIVE ( read this )

Tesla's Model 3, the least expensive vehicle it has on the market, will cost Chinese consumers about $33,427, down from $38,704. The price of the Model Y was lowered from $42,051 to $37,830. 4 days ago

Battery swap, $20,000... no thanks.
8 years or 120,000 miles warranty; 81 - 87% capacity at 200k miles. Is is really a concern?

The Model Y performance won't work on this deal because it's over $55k. The IRS website shows the 7 seater can go up to $80k but Tesla custom order does not give you a 7 seat option in the performance model, only the long range model.

i too took delivery of my long range model y on dec 29 2022 for 59k before tax, me and my wife enjoy the heck out of it and its a very fun car, very happy with our purchase.

that being said this HUGE price reduction definitely feels like a slap in the face, i know it probably won't happen but elon should give late 2022 deliveries free enhanced autopilot or something,

although the one silver lining is that we don't owe anything to the IRS so the actual price hit is more akin to 7k instead of 14k.

Wait until you are surrounded by Tesla and still have no clue why people keep buying it. Go test drive one so you don't judge it based on the lack of information of what it is or false rumors spreading by FUD.

you do know that new ICE cars will eventually get banned everywhere. No matter how much you love it, you'll have limited options to buy one or get it repaired. No one will make them anymore, so are the parts suppliers. They will switch to EV and those gas cars will go extinct just like horse carriers & all businesses around it
Lol. People buy it because agenda pushed by the government forced infrastructure to change, plus like someone said dealer markup on ICE makes EV junk sells faster. when ICE rise again with synthetic fuel and cancel culture falls upon EV again we will be the last ones smiling. Long live the ICE!
