Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

To be fair, LaFerrari "hybrid" was kind of a gimmick. They added KERS for small periods of boost but it's not really an active hybrid system like the Porsche 918
Fair enough. But I believe you get my point.

Tesla is more than just Elon Musk. Do you make the same decision when buying food or your phone because of some guy working at that company? Elon doesn't own Tesla. He works for Tesla.

the money goes to all shareholders and their current & future employees. it's not all go to Musk.

Asking again to get more replies so I can confidently place the order.

Am I reading correct - If I buy an eligible EV now, can I use my 2022 income to qualify for 7500$ tax credit and no need to worry about 2023 income thresholds??? My 2023 income might not eligible.

As IRS website is saying "You can use your modified AGI from the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less. If your modified AGI is below the threshold in 1 of the two years, you can claim the credit."

https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...3-or-after [irs.gov]
Somewhat on the same boat; personally the way I read it - if you take delivery this year (2023), you may use your modified AGI from this year, or the year before (2022), whichever is less.

Knowing the IRS, it's better to err on the side of caution and make sure your modified AGI within your delivery year is within their limit.

not sure i want to spend this kind of money on a car company with such a lousy reputation for quality and service...still no reason except pure greed for the outrageous price hikes...this company will do whatever it can get away with... capitalism at its worst.

First.. Scotty is having problems with the Quality of cars coming from the Freemont Ca. plant.

Second.. The whole company is in flux since the Tesla CEO is saying that the existing grid cant handle the 5% of all cars in CA. right now. No one is planning a upgrade to the grid and a upgrade takes 10 to 20 yrs.

Third. With higher interest rates, it is difficult to determine if a one time tax credit justifies a 5yr car note at 10% for 5yrs.

4th.. I read or heard a study that indicated that the high durability of EV's are a myth in the automotive world. Even more notable a good share of GM dealerships wont service EV's The Outlay for the equipment and lack of qualified techs are also a issue.

If I were looking to make use of the tax credit, I would look at all the costs of owning , financing, and upkeep. I keep getting surprised on reports that the EV's are not as durable as one would expect.

A slick deal should not require a GOVT subsidy.

Finally, I have to admit, that a decade or so ago, we here on Slick deals, were clamoring abut these new CFL light bulbs. I was a early adopter thinking these things would last as long as their 4 foot long cousins.. That was never the case, and today the GOVT seeks to kill them.. Go figure.. My point is I know rail has moved with a eclectric drive train for 60yrs. I just assumed the automotive transition would bring that kind of durability. I read it has not.

Now if we were talking about a liquid hydrogen powered car and fuel cell tech, Oh god I am all in.. If the cold fusion reactor is real, the cost of producing liquid hydrogen, heating and cooling buildings, and manufacturing can be done with next to free energy!?.. oh gosh it is not time for our energy strategy be outdated by the time the GOVT imposes it on us. Europe is re-firing the old plants where they can.

Yep. Kind of funny when I went to the service center with my car and they would have 50-100 Model Ys in the service lot each time. The car has only been in production for what, 2 years? Go to a Honda dealer and see how many cars are in for overnight service that are less than 2 years old.

Yes but Carvana won't give you the title or plates even after 8 months of waiting. Found that out the hard way.

i dont see singaporeans lining up to buy these. i can see the appeal from developing/poor countries lining up for upgrade from their bicycles and moped to a car. but in murica.. people care more about safety than anything.. you're welcome to be the first to buy a chinese branded auto with no reputation in the u.s and who know if they will do proper service/warranty work.
Tesla invited hundreds of Chinese engineers and chinese workers from Shanghai to come to the US tesla factory just for speeding up the production. Even if you buy tesla from the US, they are still made by Chinese.

I think Tesla has a fantastic product. But as a petrolhead, we're currently living through the twilight years of ICE, with some of the best motors ever created being released right now.

Manufacturers have all but shutdown major R&D of ICE motors going forward, so this is it. Ford's Voodoo, GM's LT6, BMW's S58, Porsche's 4.0 flat six, Mercedes Bi-Turbo V8, etc.

I know at some point in the next decade everyone needing a new car will only have electric options to choose from. Most states will ban new gas car sales after 2035, if not sooner. But until then, I'd like to still feel the vibration and hear the noise of an engine ripping to redline.
