Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

A comparable gas car is 45k, with no tax credit. This is probably the lowest these cars will get considering the volume of orders that will back it up. Over 10 years of ownership, you will save over 10k in gas savings.
Forget the gas savings--they're almost nothing compared to the less maintenance these cars have. My 2005 Porsche Boxster has less miles than my wife's 2018 M3 and I know I've spent at least 5x more on maintenance that I've mostly done myself. The ability to 'just charge and go and that's it' is a real game changer--no oil changes, no transmission fluid, no coolant, no belts, no spark plugs--just. so. much. less.

Was hoping to do a refundable reservation and think later, but it appears they required a $250 non-refundable order Fee. Tried to order a Red 5-seater but the Red color pushes the price over $55,000 so disqualifies the tax credit. I'm more than a little worried that the 7-seater Model Y can't accommodate 3 car seats. Anyone have any clue? I have 2 Chicco NextFit car seats and those are pretty wide and bulky. Would hate to waste hundreds of dollars to buy entirely new car seats to fit a Model Y.

I'm already locked in the $7500 tax credit with the Rivian R1S, but they say expect delivery late 2023. The Rivian R1S so so much more roomy and would work, but that delivery date is a concern. The Model Y delivery date is better, but that interior dimension is a little concerning.
if you just update color to Red, the total price is $54990 which qualifies for federal refund.
Not sure if you added some other options to push it over 55k.
For your 7 seater question, there are videos on youtube comparing to R1s. Check those.

I forgot but I did also added White interior. I can't stand black interior. So it either I have to go with another color option or add $4k for 7-seater. I just don't know if 7-Seater offers anything a 5-Seater doesn't when it comes to accommodating 3 kids because you can't fold the 2nd row if 2 Car Seats are in use in 2nd row.

Question: If I don't have any income at all for 2023 which means I won't have to pay any tax then I won't be able to get a dime out of the $7500 tax credit correct?
If you file taxes you would get a $7500 refund.

Tesla Model 3 Performance old price: $62,990
Tesla Model 3 Performance new price: $53,990

OEM Savings of $9k + $7500 Federal Tax Credit (YMMV) = $16.5k Total discount
Purchase price after full tax credit is 16% lower than previous full price.

0-60 in 3.1 seconds, with an estimated 480 horsepower.

As a comparison, the Ford Mustang GT Premium starts at $43,365 with 450 horsepower and a 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The BMW M3 starts at $75,295 with 473 horsepower and a 0-60 of 4.1 seconds.

And let's not forget that you need perfect shifting and traction to get those numbers in the other brands. The tesla will do it in even less than ideal conditions. And those power numbers are peak and also are tied to a transmission which has to be at the right ratio. Tesla power is there all the time from 0-120+. It's like nothing else. My modded Corvette does 0-60 in 3s with drag radials at the track, and the wifes base M3 Tesla feels just as fast. And no worries about transmission fluids, spark plugs, engine oil, engine coolant, transmission cooler, etc, etc...
