Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

This is not true. Since the MSRP is under $55000 you no longer need to have the 7 seater option for the credit

Is Enhanced AutoPilot always included in Model 3/Y as the base model? Now it's a 6000 option.
Enhanced Autopilot was never included in Model3/y. Only Basic Autopliot is included from April 2019.

Is it better to wait until they add the radar and ultrasonic sensors back into the cars?

In Dec 2022, M3LR in white with 19 inch wheels was $59490 before the $7500 discount and disregarding the free 10k supercharger miles and before destination fee and before order fee. Right now, the exact model is $51490. Therefore, the same model is $8000 less than Dec 2022. However, note that the destination fee is now higher at $1390 instead of $1200 back in 2022. Also, like I mentioned before, note the income caps for the tax credit to be valid. So all other things being almost equal (can't quantify the free supercharger miles savings that exactly) and if you do not qualify for the tax credit, the deal right now is better by only $310 for this exact example. I am not even going to get my head all jacked up by trying to calculate the sales tax differences. I will leave that for the mathematicians!
You should have in fact left all the math to the mathematicians.

I have owned several of these. The price and offers always change. I also have bad timing. I just took delivery of a 22 MX and have not sold my 2020 model y performance with FSD.

If anyone happens to be interested in a used model y performance white/white 5 seat with FSD (and LiDAR) with two sets of OEM wheels (ubertainium summer and Gemini winters) send me a message. I had a Carvana offer before taking my x it took a bit longer than expected went back to Carvana and the value plummeted. I can make someone a very good deal who wants a car that doesn't qualify for the tax credit

Oh, hey, that's the exact same day I picked up mine... lol. For the most part, I've made peace with it. I was reading about how since last week, recent Tesla car buyers in China have been protesting because they're in the same position we are, as Tesla dropped prices on their cars in China. I've been thinking about it, and although it sucks that I missed out on saving ~$12,000, I was happy when I bought it at the price I paid, and I should be happy now.

Take care,
Tofu Vic
It could be a lot worse. Some paid $80K for a Model 3 Performance:

The Cybertruck was announced in 2019 for release in 2021, is currently scheduled to begin production in mid-2023, so... maybe by 2025 at this rate?

I was searching for tesla last year when the price set at the highest. This is a good sign but I'm still refuse to buy. Waiting for other biggie car manufacturers come with their own version and lithium battery technology to improve on reliability and performance. I'm leaning toward hybrid car at the moment.

Are ppl not over the tesla hype yet? Wish the government would just make the MFR apply for the rebate when selling you the car so it could be instant, would probably help push more EV's/their-agenda.

Inventory may be rejected. I'm not sure what you're meaning to say. Like are they double selling/reserving vehicles?
