Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

You have to keep the base price with added color & wheels below $55k to qualify. So either paint or wheels. Not both. I am in the same shoes.
Wth kind of a deal is that 😂

the same could be said for an 8 year old ice car with an engine thats about to die and among other things... just look at 8yr old german luxury cars or american gm/ford cars
No ICE car requires 20k work at the 8 year mark. And most ICE cars work well into 15-20 year mark at 8k miles an year nowadays. You just can't take any criticism of Tesla for some reason?

You can get that in a 50MPG Camry Hybrid, if your gas is around $3.12/gal.

8000mile/50mpg=160 gallons. 160/50=$3.125
I own a 2014 Camry Hybrid and rarely get the advertised mileage. Also that's not really an apples to apples comparison. Even if you get a Camry Hybrid XLE, MSRP you're looking at ~$34k (which is advertised as 44/47 MPG) for a much slower car and not to mention, a vehicle that is a step backwards in terms of technology. Model 3 RWD for $36k seems like a much better value, and if you can swing it Model Y seems to have the best discount.

Just wait 3 months, Elon burned his owner base and turned TESLA into MAGA, demand is dropping heavily and Elon is learning MAGA doesn't buy electric cars, rather roll some coal. So prices will continue to drop in the near future along with the stock price if he can't keep his mouth shut. Also as noted in some comments, the current vehicles use 100% cameras and no lidar or any sort of radar to actually measure distance. It's caused enough accidents that they are going to incorporate some type of radar to actually measure distance rather than relying 100% on cameras. Tesla has an accident issue that not may talk about, but there are a large number of lawsuits, but like Elon, they won't roll over and will fight the lawsuits to the end, they have more money than the estates of the deceased.

going lower...they have tons of capacity and can't sell the inventory. read the fine print on the tax credit as well. you need to owe 7500 in taxes to get that full amount back, which most ppl buying one prob do, but if you make less than 65k AGI, you won't get the 7500 back, nor can you roll it over to the next year

For people who just want fuel efficient, there are MANY bruh.

not everyone cares about quick acceleration. A lot of people actually do care for quality and as years passed, the lack there of with Teslas are coming to the fore front.

And those who havent actually been in one and rode in one, the quality, cabin noise, creaks, and ride quality is horrible for a $50K+ vehicle

find a car with worse ride quality , build quality, cabin noise, and creeks, than a tesla thats over $50K, we'll wait

mic drop
At the moment this is probably the cheapest AWD SUV you'll find that also gets the tax credit. Not sure if Ioniq 5 still qualifies for Tax credit or not but that would def be a contender.

But if you can wait til 2024, you'll get the tax credit at the time of purchase and a cheaper car for example: Chevy Equinox EUV; this does of course assume they will meet the adjusted requirements for the credit.
