Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Yeah I'm ridiculously tempted, didn't realize CVRP was that high! Really wanted to hold out for the Chevy Equinox EV but might not make it in time for all these incentives

ZL1 Camaro, or Shelby GT500 maybe.
If electric it has to be a Plaid.

Talk to me like a child who doesn't know this world because I'm finally scratching the surface of having enough money to buy one of these.

I will be paying upwards of $30k in taxes for 2022. With this credit, does that mean I'll be paying upwards of $23k? Or is this credit applied to 2023 taxes since I will purchase in 2023?

If I purchase now, but it doesn't deliver until April, will I still be able to receive the credit?

Any other "credits" or benefits to buying if in Ca?

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help out this toddler over here. ✌️

one car is clearly better, given both car side by side, you wouldn't want to throw in 5-7k to get a model Y?

Is the federal tax credit a "refundable" credit? Meaning for us who pay less than $7500 in federal taxes will still get the the full refund?

When AWD?
That's a great question. I'm sticking my Outback Wagon until they sort that. I don't think they'll be able to keep the price below 35k (retail) with AWD though.

Picking up 2Ys, hoping to resell them when the car market skyrockets.

Love the people on here thinking that they can just flip cars without issues or taking into account, tax, registration and insurance costs for something that is government titled... and tracked. Dealerships can do this because they dont' have to pay sales tax to resell. You do.

Plus, you would either need to float that for 12 months at 7% or take the opportunity loss over 12 months which in considering the market is down now, probably 15%. I would be shocked if S&P doesn't rebound within 12 months at this point.

Good deal but I wouldn't bite on this one yet. EV prices should still drop the same way how quick they went up. For smart money and if you need one, I'd look for used market since those have EVs get credits too - and should drop more considering this news. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...cle-credit

unless you were the first to reserve an equinox.. you'll be paying up the butt for dealer markups and a long ass wait list for reservation and those equinox wont be 40k for starter

just take a look at ford lightning.. within just a few months base went from 40k to 56k LOL

And please, tell us what consumer reports thinks of Tesla reliability lol. I'd rather be dealing with issues at GM than Tesla, and on a 20k than a 50k.

Comparing a model Y or model 3 to a Chevy Bolt is a ridiculous comparison.

Teslas are super fun to drive, and high performance vehicles.

I had a friend who owned a Chevy Bolt who described it as "Having no soul". He hated it with a passion. Bought a model 3 and loves it.

T in Tesla is for Twitter. Twitter mobile. These will run SteamOS though conversely the Honda-Sony car will run PS5.
