Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Tesla website said $7500 rebate until March 2023, what exactly change in March?????
In March some cars may have the credit reduced if their batteries aren't made in the US. So Tesla is posting the March deadline to cover their ass just in case the credit disappears.

Tesla cars are not reliable with well known horrible quality from big name consumer protection organizations. Do your research... If you're just planning on using the car for 5 years or so it's obviously fine, for the most part.
Not sure where you're getting this data from, but in our personal experience of owning one versus our other cars, it has been the most reliable.

Don't forget to factor in the 20k - 30k complete battery pack change out in a few years down the road.

If you live in places with cold winter (like I do), I would say these batteries wouldn't even last 5 years, let alone 10 years.

If you live in California, do you think the grid infrastructure can keep up with everybody plugging in their EVs ? People there barely have power on during peak hours (fark PG&E BTW).

Hard pass !

The future of car is hybrid vehicle & plug-in hybrid, not pure ICE cars & definitely not 100% EV cars.
the battery pack costs 20-30k? doesnt tesla advertside the battery is good for 300k miles?

I have owned two, a 2019 and a 2022. Neither was as reliable as my previous cars and one died completely on a road trip stranding me for 2 days with less than 10k miles on the car. People told me it was an outlier at the time so that's why I gave them another chance with the 2022… but it wasn't much better and I recently sold it.

Holy Si#, I just bought an in-stock Y! I haven't even driven one.

I'm not sure how to feel yet.

I was lamenting this week about how it wouldn't qualify for the tax credit unless I added the 3rd row at $3K, on a vehicle that already cost a lot.

I was just test driving a 3 last weekend, we couldn't test drive a Y, all booked up. Had to make an appointment.

I need a 2" hitch receiver for my Yakima bike rack and Yakima trailer. Can the Tesla branded hitch and light kit be installed post factory assembly?
Yikes, I've never bought a car before driving one before, but our friend bought his yp before driving one and loved it the second he got it.

I haven't driven a y yet, but if the ui and workflow of the car is something you liked, you should be fine since it's just a different drive and ground clearance.

I would think the hitch would be able to be added after. Our friend had it on his yp and it was right behind the plastic in the bumper.

The $7500 tax credit has income caps for individual and joint filers so eligibility is not as easy as people think, unless you want to take a chance with playing with the IRS. For I think for a good number of people who buy Tesla's, their income is over the cap so the tax credit is not applicable. Feel free to look up the exact amounts for the caps to see if it applies to you or not.
Yep...here is a snippet of the rules for credit qualification

New Vehicles
Until March 2023, customers who take delivery of a qualified new Tesla vehicle and meet all federal requirements are eligible for a tax credit up to $7,500.
AGI Limitations
$300,000 for married couples filing jointly
$225,000 for heads of households
$150,000 for all other filers

12k assuming it was paid for in cash....what was your interest rate then? It's close to 6% with prime credit even with 20% down over time the savings is not as drastic 😛

>5 seater has to be under 55K to get the $7.5K

>7 seater there's no stock, has to be built. Already 4K higher in price

Yup, another year I can't find a reason to go Tesla.

The fact that they permanently turned off the ability to turn off regenerative breaking still has me annoyed to the point of seriously considering not purchasing one. I was considering it if I could get government gibs, but since there's no actual way to get the gibs with model Y, that'll be a hard pass from me bub.

Yes, Let me get a Tesla so I can burn to death when the car doors don't unlock. Or not unlock at all because its too cold out. And also have to replace lots of pieces that aren't covered because the quality is crap.
Don't buy a Tesla.
