Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Because BMW's electric suv (the iX) starts at $88,000 and doesn't qualify for the rebate, has worse performance and less range? BMW's i4 is a car, which starts at $55,000, has worse performance and less range.
Why must go for the electric car, just because of the rebate and tax credit? The electric car may be difficult to find a charging station, right?

shouldn't be, if you select 19" wheel and no fancy color it will be 52.9k.
I laugh when I see the fools get the bigger wheels/tire package and cry to tesla why they have to keep changing the tries at 15k miles. $400 plus a tire plus install. Enjoy it.

Well , called the customer service, obviously they don't care about pricing even if you bought just few days ago. I guess Model Y customers are royally screwed by Musk.
Did you really think there was any chance you would get a refund?

I can only guess you thought it would be more now, so if Tesla called you and asked for more money would you pay?

You jumped too early thinking you were getting a deal, but in fact it was just FOMO. You didn't do due diligence and got caught up thinking you were gonna miss the deal LOL

Why am I not surprised this thread is a circle-tug of libertarians crying about 1099 tax conspiracies while also trying to get the govt to subsidize their luxury car?

Ah I selected black paint and the tow hitch. That was my issue.

Still...I'm debating if I actually need the new car or not.
you...need...it. LOL

you don't have to get tow hitch now, those can be added later by Tesla (order online they ship to service center and they install it without extra charge). It's $300 extra to add later, 1300 vs 1000.

The prices came back from what they were about a year and a half ago right? Bought my M3 in Sept of 2021. Might consider upgrading to MY for the space and being a better camping vehicle imo. Also think that its probably best to wait till they add radar and also in 2024 I believe they can do the instant discount at the point of sale. If so its looking good for us as they become more affordable.

Maybe they already are, you wont know until the government comes knocking. Trust me, the amount of consumer info banks send to the government is a lot, most of which you don't and will never know.

Tell me you're not from California without telling me.

California will tax you when you bring it here.

but you would have if there was an incoming price hike right?..
so in elon's defense.. are you going to write him a check if he raises price after the fact?

No. However, historically, MSRP hasn't dropped the way Tesla has done. Do I have a legal case? Nope. Do I have any case? Nope. Doesn't stop me from being pissed off.

Cars aren't typically subject to market value fluctuations like this. Note all the Chinese buyers super pissed off that he dropped the price and are rioting in front of Tesla dealerships demanding a credit.
