Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

How much we can save on Tesla as a common man when compared to luxury sedan. Forget about the build quality. 🤣😜

Ive never looked into these tax credits, but now that the OP posted the details - If you quality for the tax credit (AGI filing), you cant afford this, or at least are not in a position financially that should purchase a $50k+ vehicle.
you think someone that makes almost $150k per year can't afford a $50k vehicle? Confused

Get a JuiceBox with nema 14-50 plug, no extra professional installation required besides hanging it on the wall. I mean you can buy the wall charger if you'd like but that requires an electrician to hardwire it directly to your breaker box and making no use of your existing 14-50 outlets. JuiceBox has a 40amp version of the charger, gets over 35 miles of charger per hour
Thanks I am going to have to research charger options now looks like there are more than just Tesla's

If you care about safety of your kids (teenage driver) or your family, I really strongly suggest you drive a Tesla. I'm half joking and half not. I see so many accidents with fatalities that could've been prevented had it been a Tesla. Forget about all other features. Safety is top priority and Tesla is no question number 1 in that category. Make sure you watch some NTHSA or Euro NCAP crash test on YouTube to compare. You would be amazed.

Do you know:
- your Tesla will preemptive tighten seat belt if it senses crash that's inevitable. That is better to brace your body for impact which results in less severe injury
- your Tesla will preemptive deploy airbag if it sense crash is inevitable, again reduce impact and body injury.

Both of these features came with over the updates just last few months. Show me another manufactures can improve safety of your car through these updates. No one can do this.
Do you know a lot of other cars can do this as well? Lol...

Placed an order on M3P after the wife approved. Anyone have details on the wall charger? I did not purchase it part of my order and will either try to get it at delivery or afterwards. My Questions are

I have 2 x 240V (50A) NEMA 14-50R outlets in my garage already.
It was installed by electrician when my home was built.

Since I have the outlet what professional installation needs to be done for the wall charger?
Are there any better wall chargers that the Tesla one or do you recommend the Tesla wall charger looking for Level2 charging as minimum.
Don't buy the wall connector. Get the $230 mobile connector that comes with the 14-50 adapter, plug it into the wall, and you're done. No professional installation needed. The only minus over the wall connector is that you'll be charging at 32 amps instead of the 40 amps by the wall connector.

The Juicebox with 14-50 is $650. $650 versus $230. You do the math to see if the extra 8 amps is worth it to you. And yes it's 8 amps, not 18 amps, because you should only draw 80% of what the circuit is rated at.

There aren't enough charge stations to realistically adopt an electric vehicle to drive cross country compared to gas fueled vehicles.

Sure you can. Lease.

There's no income cap because the credit goes to the lease company, who will typically pass it along to the person leasing as lower payments

Since you are posting from 2013, I'd like to warn you about some stuff in the coming years...among them is cross country drives in Teslas are trivially easy because superchargers are incredibly common, especially along interstates. Also, in 2019 you should invest heavily in hand sanitizer companies- just trust me.

Thanks for the insight. I called the nearest Tesla center (Delaware) and that associate said they will get more Model Y by end of quarter 1. Looks like I still have to wait till end of March Frown

You can get that in a 50MPG Camry Hybrid, if your gas is around $3.12/gal.

8000mile/50mpg=160 gallons. 160/50=$3.125
My Kia optima hybrid get around 37 MPG.... not sure what the MSRP was but I paid 20k new at the dealer... so I agree, tons of car get good MPG... the electric thing is over rated. some of the hybrid does very well.

I don't think many people are driving cross country these days in cars as opposed to flying. Maybe a half century ago when flying was expensive. These days airports are packed and people wait for the numerous flights instead of driving even if their flight is cancelled as we've seen in the past few weeks.

You can't tax loss harvest more than 3k/year per joint return. Not sure how you have no income taxes :p
