Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

If you care about safety of your kids (teenage driver) or your family, I really strongly suggest you drive a Tesla. I'm half joking and half not. I see so many accidents with fatalities that could've been prevented had it been a Tesla. Forget about all other features. Safety is top priority and Tesla is no question number 1 in that category. Make sure you watch some NTHSA or Euro NCAP crash test on YouTube to compare. You would be amazed.

Do you know:
- your Tesla will preemptive tighten seat belt if it senses crash that's inevitable. That is better to brace your body for impact which results in less severe injury
- your Tesla will preemptive deploy airbag if it sense crash is inevitable, again reduce impact and body injury.

Both of these features came with over the updates just last few months. Show me another manufactures can improve safety of your car through these updates. No one can do this.
Both of those are nonsense.

Seat belt pre-tensioners are in all new cars, even shitty econoboxes have them. EDIT: Tesla uses the same pre-tensioners as everyone else. They are activated by an explosive charge via an impact sensor.

Source for the preemptive airbag deployment? That is completely unnecessary. Do you understand how an airbag works?

Can anyone tell me how can the price of Model Y be below 55k. I am based on Seattle and the minimum price for Model Y is $55,990.
Don't check the existing inventory (cause I see what you mean by using a local zip code) but use the custom order link, that will show you the newly decreased price.

The "stale" model Y was the 6th best selling vehicle in the US in 2022.

Sales were up 32.4% year over year.

Everything in the top 5 sales were DOWN year over year.

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/07/a...%20sellers.

In November of 2022 the "stale" Model Y became the best selling car... of any kind.. in Europe-
https://insideevs.com/news/628665...-november/

No, it couldn't, since FSDb doesn't work in parking garages.

Though as we saw from the dude who intentionally drove his Tesla off the cliff, you'd probably survive even if it did Smilie

No, there won't. Lawyers only file suits there's at least SOME legal basis for. There's none here- and 0 money to be had for the lawyers.

Hell at legacy dealers some people pay thousands more for the same car the same day as someone else because they don't negotiate as well.
I agree there is no worthwhile case here.

I do wonder about backlash though. I'm not sure anything like this has happened before, where you could buy a popular car for over $20000 less* that it would have cost you a couple of weeks prior.

*including the tax credit that it is now eligible for.

Tesla will be adding new radar sensors within few weeks or maybe months.
Wonder if they are trying to get rid of all the models without radar before release models with new radar sensors.

Tesla was offering a $7500 knock-off in late December, so it's "only" the 13k price cut that is net cheaper here.... (and for those who don't qualify for the new tax credit, the price gap between getting the 7500 off and the 13k price cut is even smaller, about 5.5k)

But as I mention, gaps in the 5-10k range in price are common even the same day at legacy dealers. Back when I got my Lexus I paid about 10k under MSRP, but I'm sure some other sucker paid sticker price..... not to mention especially the last 1-2 years legacy dealers were commonly marking cars up 10-20k (or more!) higher than msrp

https://insideevs.com/news/590922...ng-markup/

That's a dealer who added -100 percent- to the price of an F-150 EV for example.

At least with Tesla you know everybody paid the same price you did on the same day, even if it could change tomorrow.

Do you?

Because pre-triggering the bag has been found to be highly effective in improving performance. Here's a study from the NHTSA website

https://www-esv.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pro...9-0229.pdf

Quote from Study conclusion :
The activation of irreversible restraint systems
significantly before the collision arises remarkable
potential for the reduction of the injury risk of the
frontal car occupant

They are activated by camera. Which ones have similar feature can preemptive tighten before Tesla?

Stupid question but wanted to be sure. I ordered the Model Y LR with Grey Metallic Paint and Towing Hitch, price come out to be $54,990…this means I will qualify for the $7,500 rebate right? There is $1300 destination fees and $250 fees which if include would bump me over that limit.

The cap to qualify is $55,000 so $59,630 wouldn't qualify anyway, right?

Yes you qualify given you get the delivery before IRS make battery rules applicable.
