Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

This sucks. I am in a similar boat. I bought a model Y in December with the 3750 credit and 10,000 supercharger miles. Is there any way to make Tesla price match or a way to return the vehicle?
Just sell it and buy a new one.

Worst time to buy a Tesla, now.
Best time to buy a Tesla at the end of the quarter.

So can someone explain how tax credit works? I read online that it's not refundable.

The credit is nonrefundable; it can lower your tax bill to zero, but it won't result in a refund

For example if my employer deduct/withhold taxes every month from my paycheck and during tax filing if I receive credit for for the deductions; let's say $1000, then will I not receive the $7500 credits as I'm receiving the credit of 1k?
Or
Another example is if I owe $6000 in taxes, then the total amount I owe will be down to zero?
I think someone else covered it, but hope this helps:
Your withholdings are irrelevant in figuring out whether you qualify or not - your tax obligation is what matters. So if you say have a 10k tax obligation, and say you had 10k in withholdings, you'd still get a 7.5k refund check.
Basically, the tax credit would lower your tax obligation from 10k to 2.5k, and they would refund you the excess withholdings.
However, if your tax obligation is 6k, you'd only get a 6k credit (and they would refund you in full whatever withholdings you had.)

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but looks like there could be another $2,000 credit for CA buyers!

https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/en/cvrp-info

The FAQ (which has not been updated yet) says that Model 3 and Y no longer qualify due to the price increases, but now that they've dropped the price - this rebate should be good again!

Electric cars are going to see tremendous innovation in next 4-5 years. If you don't really need a car right now, I'd say hold on the purchase and get a newer tech which could possibly go 500mi+ and charge within minutes.
Also, if your AGI falls in tax credit bands and you live in hi-col then definitely don't buy this.
Rather invest this money, best time to invest right now, and buy the better tech in 5 years.
Absolutely right. There are some awesome EVs coming between now and 2025.

well, i'm not poor, just don't think it's worth it at this moment. maybe down the road. maybe when NIO finally cracks the U.S market, then maybe NIO will drop prices for their cars to get more people to buy and be competitive with Teslas.
RICH people doing SLICK DEALZ. Imagine meeting Elon here

I do think sometimes we buy things (especially expensive things) and we feel a need to justify the purchase so we become cheerleaders. Admitting when we made mistakes is hard.

In any case, you should ask one of your friends if you can borrow it for a weekend (or even a day) to try it out!
Very true....

Lol he told me the other day that his Tesla needs service or repair and has to wait at least several months for the part to come in (before he can drive it again hahahaha)... So even if i wanted to test drive his, I'll have to wait a long time. But hey, lemonade out of lemons: it's just another of way of considering yourself to be part of the exclusive and alluring club of Tesla owners, right? Big Grin

You could work on dropping your 2023 AGI below 300k! (max out pre-tax retirement accounts, healthcare saving accounts, etc.) if you're not too far from it.
Ya.. big mistake we did by not maxing out 401k in 2022. But in 2023, even if we max out everything, we're expecting AGI to cross 300k. Not complaining.. just salty we cant get this deal Smilie
