Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Truth be told I am now in my 60s and going to retire (hopefully) very soon. In my lifetime I have owned a number of cars and trucks. If you take the total price of ALL of the vehicles that I have owned ... it is less than the price of this single car.

BTW, I have never had a car payment either ...

Keep in mind most of the people in this thread trashing Tesla and electric vehicles in general have never driven or owned one.

Don't let someone who has never owned or driven a Tesla form your opinion - or an asinine politically motivated opinion. Electric vehicles becoming a political talking point from radicalized people on both the left and right is ridiculous. FWIW, not that it's anyone's business but I'm a moderate who leans conservative and not the bleeding heart far left liberal everyone assumes I am because I drive and electric vehicle.
Definitely agree. Don't drive a Tesla, but thoroughly enjoyed my LEAF and now Bolt EUV. EV ownership is definitely much better than ICE.

Still baffles me why certain things like driving EV or ICE is even a political thing. EV + gasoline/PHEV is a better setup for most 2-car families. Saves loads of money and time/hassle for maintenance at dealerships. If range is an issue, just take the gas/PHEV vehicle on trips.

Pretty sad to see almost everything become political nowadays.

The recent model 3 and model y are vision only right? No radar, no sensors. Why would anyone consider it?

Price now showing $55,990, no longer eligible for tax credit at this price. Deal dead?

I only see 55,990. Where is 52990? Do I have to go to mid or west coast from east ??

You guys are looking at inventory. Where all the under 55k cars are already gone.

Go to the order page where you can still put in a 52.9k order.

More interested in solar panels for the roof discount. I'll never trade my gas car for electric.
Once you drive/own one, you'll sing a different tune. Haven't met anyone who went EV and wanted to go back to ICE after…Including me.

So..., buy EV or not to by EV?
Buy EV for personal financial gain. Period. If it suits your lifestyle, great! The extra cost of EV vs a traditional FI should be the spread. The last time I checked it was 7 years for average household with normal mileage to break even. The planet is screwed regardless since last century of industrialization and population growth, hence EV or no EV doesn't make a difference. Wink

My sis and hubby here in California bought a new 2023 XLE Premium a few weeks ago and it was $35,500. Your $45,000 is way high vs your $28,000.

Am I missing something? I go to the Tesla page and all the Model Y are >$55k. This would make the tax credit invalid. Did they raise the prices back up?

Wanted it but decided not to buy, after all the Twitter drama. Maybe in 5 years there will be plenty of other choices.

What Twitter drama? Release of all documents that certain group would prefer to be kept under the wraps?

You based your decision on a social media app? That's funny. Makes no sense.
